Sprinting when there is no track avaliable?

I am currently training for a sport similar to Bobsled, and need to do sprint training. Unfortunetly, the area I am in right now doesn’t have any tracks avaliable. Those that are in the area are closed to the public (trust me, i’ve already tried). However, there is an open field of grass that is perfectly flat and pretty wide open and taken care of and is by our student fitness center. Is that an ok place to do sprint training if a track isn’t avaliable? I assume don’t wear spikes on the grass, and just wear tennis shoes when doing the sprint training too? And last, I don’t have blocks avaliable, so I am guessing just come out of a standing start when doing speed training?

Thanks for any advice. It was only be this way for another two months, then I am moving somewhere else to do my sport and have training facilites avaliable as well.

You can train anywhere that has good footing. Grass is fine and you can wear spikes in grass if you want.

I like running on a grass field. For tempo, I go barefoot, but if I am doing speed and acceleration work, then I will use my spikes.

Since you are training for Bobsled, I wouldn’t worry about a lack of blocks. Standing starts, falling starts, lying starts, pushup starts, etc will all be excellent for your acceleration mechanics. As a matter of fact, they may be more beneficial than using blocks!

what if i am training for track (100m) and dont have access to blocks. would these alternates be ok?

Yes you should be ok because if you have the necessary strength levels etc your transition to blocks should be very easy and take little time.

Even if you have access to blocks, I would recommend putting in significant time doing lying starts, etc before introducing block work.
