sprinting backwards

a while back Ebay mag claimed that sprinting backwards for short distances improved forward sprinting speed.
If this is true…HOW?

It depends on who they were training. If I trained my dad to run backwards, he would probably improve his speed.

you mean eastbay. sprint forward unless there sport requires them to sprint backward.

I know. I would not perform any sprint training backwards. I will do some backwards running during my warmup sometimes but I wouldn’t focus on it (aka wouldn’t do it more than 2x50m at medium speed).

Alright this is myth but most likely false. Deion Sanders runs a 4.4 backwards? I dont believe it, probably imposssible.

Thats a fact…he does run a 4.4 backwards…just not sure of the distance that he will cover… :smiley:

Over the years, we’ve seen lots of backwards training methods but I never thought we’d be lauding any of them!

I might combine it with my picnic table workout and my powercleans on a wobble board… :wink:

Running backwards has it place in a training preparation. Everything that would normaly pull now pushes and everything that pushes pulls. A different way to stimulate the muscles, just like hurdle walks.

hahahahahahaha running backwards!!! general conditioning maybe. specific adaptation? i dont think so.

Thats good, but remember for maximum effectiveness you need to eat as much as you possibly can as slow as you possibly can(without taking long breaks in between bites) and then wait until you are starving to eat again. As we all should know, any diet that doesn’t expect you to eat with maximum intensity in one sitting and then wait until you are starving again is just inadequate and unscientific.

That would be H.I.S. (high intensity snacking)

How does the start position look for the backwards sprint?
Do you need wing mirrors for it?

No but you need Moye blocks.
