Sprint training from scratch (Tellez says no drills)?

Nap,

I’m not a track coach so I’m not sure I can help you here. However, I have found with the football teams I’ve coached over the past 25 years that the sprinter drills Mach originated to be very effective. Because of the time and the numbers involved in practice I use the A’s and what perhaps are still called C’s and the 3rd one I don’t know what it’s called:

(1) High-knee bounce (without plant foot leaving ground) and/or High-knee skip

(2) Heel-kick every 3rd step alternating legs and/or Heel-kick run

(3) Heel-kick + High Knee every 3rd step alternating legs and/or Heel-kick + High Knee run

I’m sure the track guys can step in here and explain this better.

This works great with the football team and I might add with my clients who average age 50. Unless they are completely uncoordinated the drills teach them how to run properly. None of them are sprinters, however I use the drills as a warmup before weights. To a man they all say the same thing, that they wish someone had taught them this 40 years ago. So do I.

Perhaps these drills are on Charlies GPP DVD? (which I haven’t ordered yet because I can’t seem to get my arse in gear and get a money order done - but I soon will Charlie!)

Hope that helps Nap,

Football Coach

Ben did the Mach power speed drills throughout his career.

How do I find Mach’s work?
