Sprint Distances

If an athlete were training specifically to increase his 40 yd time (debate to the specificity of the test for football aside), would you use fly-in runs and distances up to 60m, using max velocity work as ‘overspeed training’?

Also, if an athlete were training only for the 60m indoor race, is there any value in running distances above 60m in training?

Yes, but in very low volumes. If you’re running under a 100m only you better hit the goddamn weights hard and spend a lot of time in the blocks working on the start.
