Sore glute

Hello sprinters. I’m rather new to 400M training. I just started over a year ago. Anyways, starting back in January, I’ve been getting piriformas syndrome but was able to manage by massaging and stretching. Last nite, I was doing some 300s and felt some tightness (not pain) in my right glute. So, I decided to take the next week off completely from running (need the mental break as well). I’ll then slowly get back into sprinting.

2 questions: Is it OK to biking as cross-training (so I do not lose fitness)? AND does this type of injury/tightness take a while to heal?

The first 3-4 days I would rest, upper body weights, use a softball to massage the area several times a day and stretch.

Thanks for the advice. The massage “ball” is the best thing since sliced bread! Wow.

I will take 2 weeks off. Do you generally lose a lot of fitness in 2 weeks? I’ve been training pretty consistently for the 400M since January 08 (so perhaps, this is a good break).
