What do you all think the problem is. I think that he has a problem getting through the rounds. He never has anything left for the final. This has been evident in the last Olympics and world champs?
What could he do to be better prepared for the rounds.
He got hurt doing a stupid bench routine that was not in his normal training and, while he was recuperating, Usain moved down and pushed the bar farther away for a start.
I’d sure like to know who was pushing the idea of Negatives in the bench for a guy who’s bench wasn’t a major lift for him in the first place and what the true relationship is between the coach and the manager.
everyone blames the coach but was he just lucky when his girls cleaned up in the 100?
Yea i know the coach wouldnt have his star athlete doing negatives. It must have been an outsider.
No negatives aren’t bad. But when it’s higher than your max, and just outside of the olympics it probably is.
No need for negatives in a sprinter program, the risk/reward to is tooo high!!!
So forget compensatory acceleration right?
The lift was above his max according to some people who were there.
why would he do this?
overloading???
He also hurt his groin as well in Rome. When you are unable to train as planned for the majority of the three or so months heading into the olympic finals, you are not putting yourself in a position to succeed.
is it possible its just a mental problem… maybe he just gets over aroused when it comes to final time and he cant perform at his best?
What was up with stomach anyways? Did he injure that too?
He said that he’s going to go out thinking that this is just another grand prix race. He was thinking the right way, simply this time…it was about execution and he didnt execute. He looked horrible coming out of the blocks and his race was horrible to say the least. He didnt slow down this time, which deserves a thumbs up. But his head still came down well before the finish line! Its simply a different version of a repeat of Osaka and Athens.
BTW…didnt this years rounds and everything look like a repeat of last olympics for Powell? Same ranking…semi final…final time…etc.
Didnt pay a good old visit to the toilet ?
Honestly when I get really stressed my stomach hurts. Maybe it was just stress. Stomach hurt mon.
but that makes too much sense
Haven’t had a chance to post all weekend…but what a weekend…Firstly I for one am one of those who get pretty pissed off when people call Asafa a bottle job or choker. Bolt and Gay are mentally tougher than him in Majors. I feel sorry for this cat I really do…its like he can’t put it together when it really counts…it will be hard for him from now on as the level has been raised but if any one can test Bolt its him. It was only a few years ago we were saying that no one could match Asafa for finishing…so what does Tyson Gay do…he works on this…these cats can do the same and match Bolt…it can be done! Some observations made:
2004 Final - Asafa on the line sweating and nervous. You can always tell when he’s nervous because he doesn’t know where to look on the start line. He also made a nervous look to his left…2008 Final - No sweating but a nervous smile and once again he turned to the left maybe to catch a glimpse of Bolt to get a reassurance?
2008 Final - Bolt on the other hand was doing Drummond/Crawford type stuff to relax himself…he knew he had the wheels and just needed to relax…joking around enabled him to do this.
Execution of the race was POOR. It wasnt him at all…what annoys me the most is that all these cats in the final apart from Thompson and Dix he has raced on the circuit has has sacrificed them to the Gods of Mondo…ok he got a unconvincing win against Bolt dipping (which we all know is unlike him) but other than that he had a great pedigree than the others. It was all down to execution. No trademark reaction (in fairness to all competitors the hold was very long in these champs) no dominating 60m no Asafa finishing speed. He looked a shadow of his 9.77 self. I say 9.77 self because I’m still unconvinced about the 9.74…A little to convienient for my liking. The 9.77 in Athens no questions…that there was pure Asafa.
im very interested to see what he does next race…because we all remember last year…if he goes and runs 9.80 or something really fast like that then we know its all mental and not physical…nothing can be changed physically in a week…
PJ got the splits on the 9.74
But if he goes and runs 9.80 there won’t be several rounds before hand. So still no guarantee it’s mental…
