oh i am so f***ing annoyed
Today tried to jump for first time with a full approach in practice. Started with some 6 step popups, did 5.90m and was like  expecting something huge to come, but could only manage 5.80  . I am unable to dominate my penultimate, whenever i jump i feel a huge pression on my leg, as if it was acting like some kind of unarticulated pole.
It pisses me totally off.
hmmm ,alright bro, stay positive it will come…
firstly, do you mean 6 total steps or 12 steps (6 rights or lefts) ? because my 6 step PB is 6.00m.
now, what is your full approach, how many steps?
it would seem your not eccentrically strong enough and thats why your leg cant take off from that speed…depth jumping (double and single leg will help here. Also doing slow eccentric and static squat holds with help…
what do you jump from 8, 10, 12, 14 steps…?
That´s a six contact approach (r-l-r-l-r-l). My full approach is of 16 contacts.
What do you mean with eccentrically strong? The rebound effect at the bottom of the squat?
Btw, I am veeeery weak in the weightroom.
Now I realise that in the last two months I have been doing very little plyo work (had some back troubles) but I now could start again.
ok, then 5.90 from 6 steps…is excellent!!!
and should easily be worth 7m from a full…and much further depending on your top speed…
eccentrically strong, means basically your leg stiffness…have a very stiff/ strong/ straight/ rigid/ tall/ solid leg at take off is ESSENTIAL for a good take off at speed…
best way to get this is like i said, plyos and squat variations…i feel plyos and of course jumping at speed is the best way to develop this skill…
but, 6-8 step jumping is what we do very very early, and gradually we move back to 10,12 and 14, then a full…my full is now 21.
you really cant go from 6, then from 16. You to need to develop 10 and 12, then move back to 16…
Well, I am no fast guy at all, believe my top speed is more or less at 5.1 for a flying 50m. My 30 isn´t great also.
Well, i belive youre right about strength, someone told me I may be “collapsing” or not extending my leg fast enough so that it works as a pole.
My problem is that whenever i tried to push the speed, even on short approach jumps i am unable to jump as far as i do with slower jumps. Everything points now to what is commonly said, if technique (or similar) fails look at the strength, like in the crouch start.
Everything you are stating is right, I went too quick from short approaches to long ones (3 sessions). I gotta talk with my coach, being in hs and trying to compete in many things is gonna work against me.
improve your max strength, in the clean and squat and you’ll see huge gains fast…
can you ask your friend to video saladino in training…then post it on here…
mmm i wish i could, he trained there for a month before the panamerican games last year. he may travel again there if our country gets a decent 4x100 mark (ran 39.91 last year) and if the economy doesnt explode soon. Saladino leaped 8.39 yesterday at rio. He was a little bit disappointed because he “just jumped that”, was expecting above 8.50  .
btw, i power clean 80kg and full squatting 3x85kg is a nightmare for me. Weight arround 72kg at almost 6´1.
when did he “just jump that?”
yeah, get them weight room numbers up…
Yesterday, Rio grand prix:
foul
8.30
foul
pass
8.37 (-0.2)
8.39 (+1.2) WL
i freaked completelly out because initially read 8.93
yeah i know…
why was he dissapointed though…he hadnt competed for a while…
i believe he had some kind of minor injury
regarding to my lifts, i normaly have a very hard time on the bottom of the squat, come very slow up and only on the last 30 degrees I accelerate decently
i also find difficult to perform half squats since i use a lot that rebound of the very bottom
was watching a nice video in youtube of hpc:

yeah, these would help you for sure…
you need great leg stiffness…
do drops from high boxes and freeze on landing with slight leg bend…
