Running Fast enough in the prelims to make the finals

Currently this season and the previous ones i have problems running fast enough in the preliminary races to make the finals even tho at times i can run faster than the times in the finals.

For example i recently ran a 6.6 in the first heats of a race and i needed a 6.5(which i know i can run) to make the finals, where i woulda had some competition and ran a 6.4 somethin.Anyone know what the problem is?

You’re probably not warmed up enough for the trials. Surviving trials probably gives you the “warm up” or CNS activation/wake-up you need to run well in the finals.

Some of my guys like to run a hard 50m sprint before the prelims (maybe ~20-30min beforehand).  To get things cookin'.
