Notes:
Ugh…I felt good out on the track during warmups, but during my 50M build up something pulled in my left hamstring. I thought I worked it out with bodyweight OI work, but it came back after my first run and I can still feel it while I sit here. It’s not a pull or anything, but it’s certainly a tweak.
Even with the hamstring, my first 150M was done in 17.2, the second fastest time I’ve ever run. What’s bad though is that I tightened up like hell. After about 90M my neck and upper back started to knot up and my arms started to lock down. I flailed the last third of the run and still managed to put up a good time. The second run was even worse. I ran tighter than a guitar string and it showed.
Still, the times combined with the way I ran them shows my top speed is up. My SE and smoothness has taken a nose dive, but I’ll attribute that to fatigue.
All in all, what today tells me is that fatigue is finally starting to get to me. Over the past couple weeks I’ve trained thrice per week (as opposed to every 4-5 days), been hitting full speed 150s, doing overspeed work, and have been swamped with finals and final reports. It’s no wonder I’m feeling a little run down, and I’m only glad my hamstring was only a minor tweak.
I’m going to take the next week to do some SMFR, some long duration BW isometrics, and a bunch of other general restorative work. When I get back, I’ll be ready to start smashing PRs again.
I might get some ab work in a little later.
