Question on training for the 400M

Hey sprinters. Just started sprinting back in Jan. Last 3 years, did middle-distance running (5Ks). I did a “time-trial” last nite on the track and felt awesome in the 1st 200m then just died like crazy in the last 200M. Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of 200s/300s. Is it better to run thru the lactate with the speedier stuff like 200s/300s (e.g., 6 X 200M) or to incorporate 500s/600s to gain that stamina in the end. I figured that the more you increase your speed, you are always better off no matter what. Right now, I’ve been running my 200s between 27s - 29s. Back in Jan when I started, I could not even break 30s. BTW, I’ve also been reading that long lactate threshold thread. It amazes me how 400m requires SO much training/planning.

Depends on your level of conditioning. If you can do the 500s/600s at a high intensity than those over distance runs can be good. However if you’re doing the 500s/600s at a lower pace its preferential to do repeat 300s.
