Have not jumped in years. Do I want some forward lean to build momentum into the pit? Seems like if I don’t lean in the run up I jump more up than out over the sand. I high jump also and might be applying wrong leg movement to the long jump because of it. Did jump about 2 feet further with the added lean.
I believe there is some forward lean naturally for sprinting (unless you’re MJ), but don’t bend at the waist to lean forward. All forward lean is at then ankles, the back is straight and tall.
during the run up which is pure acceleration slight forward lean will be there naturally.from looking at top LJ’ers i have found that during the last 2-3steps the stride cuts and slight drop of the hips.also the body is more up-right transferring the speed to forward plus vertical.
watch how lewis/powell jumped,pure masters
