Problems with T&F

Its seems like there are some things which keep on trying to stop me from training for track. I go to college, and currently sprint unattached at my college (I’m a freshman). I know how to train, but the problem is where. Today, I was suppossed to do tire pulls (implace of hills; no hills here), on the field near this colleges track. Problem is, now the stuck up team seems to want to hold onto the Track until 5:30pm, a time I can’t wait for. I was kicked off today basically. Also, I sprint unattached with the plan of getting a scholarship onto a track team.

So, I am going to ask around some High Schools nearby if I can use there track.

But, with this, I will not be able to train on this schools track, and they dont have a equivalant for students. It is not possible for me to train in the morning due to classes.

Its just crazy for me right now, and was curious what you all would do in these circumstances? Thanks for any help, this is getting insane.

Do tire pulls in the parking lot.

Funny, but honestly, that defeats the whole purpose of grass, doesn’t it?

On top of that, I will need a track to train on as well eventually. I am asking around to schools nearby if I can use theres, but hopefully they should be fine with it. I think sports are a joke when it comes to this kind of stuff.

I’m not joking. Why do you need grass? Why do you need a track? Do you know how many underprivileged (good) high school athletes training in a parking lot? Stop making excuses and train. You gonna just skip training because you don’t have a track?

If you need to use the track, just use it when it’s available. 10pm, 5am? so?

Sorry, I’m a little more realistic. Please, honestly, can you tell me you would use a track at 4am? No excuses are being made, I am asking around and plan on training at a different place tomorrow. On top of this, I’m in college, classes are important to me as well. All I’m asking is what would other do. If you would do that, thank you for your imput, but for me, I would not wake up at 4am to do track and field.

Yes training at 5am would suck. Our XC team does morning runs at 6:15am. Maybe you could train at night? I don’t know. Things aren’t always easy.

Correct, that is why I plan on traveling a little farther to go to a track farther out. This will cost more money, etc. etc. etc… Training at night is not a good idea for many reasons. No lights, and this area isn’t the safest place. I can handle myself, but know not to put myself into certain situations.

On a side not here, before we get sidetracked. My question is to anyone else who has run unattached. Do you have any advice or experience to tell that helped you get through certain troubles or such?

What the hell, what do you want from this thread? When is the track open, when do you have class? Look for the time when the track is open, and you don’t have class, and then go train. If the track team is still out there, they can’t possibly be taking up all lanes of the track at once for the entire time. Train around them, do what needs to be done.

If they try and kick you off, be polite about it and ask nicely if you can just train around the team and that you won’t be in anyone’s way. If they resist, go check and see if they’re even allowed to kick you off. You pay tuition too, you have just as much a right to the facilities as anyone else as long as you aren’t intruding. IF that doesn’t work then go to a park and look for grass, that’s what I did for three summers in a row without a track and it worked just fine.

At my school, we have no hills, it’s all flat. There’s nowhere for me to do sled drags, nothing except a little place to run. So what to do? Adapt, and make do with what you have. There’s plenty of training to be done, and training in less than perfect conditions is better than not training at all.

Good luck man.

Why can’t you wait till 5.30pm?

It gets dark pretty quick, the only place on this campus that has decent food (not fast food) closes by a certain time; if I train at 5:30, I won’t be able to get that food.

Are you not able to buy and prepare your own from a store? You could even make a decent post workout shake. Make sure you get lost of carrots too as they help you see in the dark :stuck_out_tongue:

Why not talk to the people that run that place on campus and explain the situation, maybe they can help and give you something you can eat later.

In case you were wondering how John does it! :stuck_out_tongue:
