Powell out til June

If the story is true its very sad bc this young man dream could be spoiled for this olympic year.

u get any sort of numbers on how much weight was being pressed?

didn’t get it but presumedly well above his max.

no idea what was going through powells head to do this, if the whole story is true that is.

Sounds like what drob was doing with wgf

lucky the injury wasn’t as bad as it could have been when using max weights, what were his spotters doing? Was coach even there? this will be realy sad if Powell dont get to the games cause of this

he’ll get there and use the rounds of the 100m + the relay to make up for missed races so he can peak to break the record right after.

To lr1400 and Charlie, stop implicating the Inno-Sport system. Again, this is just a case of someone speaking before they know what they’re talking about. No one who applies the IS system uses weights above max and does slow lowering with pauses. Whatever the hell he was doing, it was not Inno related.

Inno wasnt said…

what was implied - was that type of training - heavy negatives - they get sprouted around here, often, and stuff like it.

Regular benches n squats have proven time and time again to do the job good enough, without nasty repercussions.

Heavy negatives - yet another nail in its coffin

I dont understand why you get ants in your pants when someone says anything neg about inno.

Bold, Drob and WGF were called out by name and Charlie was obviously talking about Drob as well.

tamfb, it’s not that something negative about Inno-Sport is being said, it’s that it’s being implicated falsely and people are attributing dangerous methods to the system which it does not actually employ. I can’t stand misinformation.

I understand they are different movements but inno OLP Bench Press is very similar to a neg bp because the athlete is lifting a much heavier load during the ecc phase.

OLP wouldn’t have any pauses. Also, no sprint coach would ever assign their sprinter OLP bench presses. This is how I know it was not the Inno-Sport guys.

Pause or no pause that wasnt the issue, and i dont think cf said inno guys are training powell.

While I think that pauses, negatives, chains, bands, boxes, tempos etc. add variety to ones weight training program and are sometimes fun to perform, I hardly think that they are necessary.

Too many men have attained tremendous results through the simple use of the barbell, progressive resistance, and standard rep speeds and ranges. At some point someone needed to ask whether the potential benefit of Powell doing this exercise was worth the inherent risk. Unfortunately this was not done and Olympic Gold is potentially compromised.

Unfortunately it often seems that the practitioners of these methods know just enough to be dangerous…

No kidding it wasn’t IS guys. We know that cause Powell would already be running slower than he currently is if it was IS.

Lighten up, no one thinks IS will be coaching any sprinter in Beijing.

Truth be known Powell was probably trying to impress some hot poon in the gym and it bit him in the ass.

It’s been my experience that almost any Jamaica fan/athlete you talk to at Penn Relays claims to be good friends with Asafa and is willing to spout off any sort of information/misinformation you’re willing to listen to. I kinda believe the story (neg bp injury) but I’m not totally sold on it.

these were guys on the relay who train with him.
I think you’ve read people spouting off about holds and negs and so on here and elsewhere and here’s a great example of what can happen. There is just no way a regular bench press, carefully administered, will do this.
And why in the hell is the World Record Holder trying something new at this late stage?? (It certainly sounds like Franno wasn’t there cause initially he didn’t know about it.)
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

For your information, there is more than one way to fuck up.
Negs and holds at weights above what you can lift are one kind of stupid and they don’t have to be assigned to IS.
Another kind of stupid is screwing up successful training and, if that applies to IS, tough!
In both cases, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

His coach and manager are having some troubles…
