Pope Quique results

In high school I was mid distance runner with PR’s

400 - 53.2 HT
800 - 2:07.3 HT

I went to a D3 college and converted to a sprinter with a terrible coach the first 2 years, my PR’s were

55 - 7.2x FAT
100 - 12.17 FAT
200 - 23.7 HT
400 - 52.30 FAT
LJ - 20’0
TJ - 38’9

I got sick of it and started studying training philosophies and have used this site as a major contributor to my training as well as getting a new coach who allowed me freedom while still giving me general guidelines to follow, here are my results from the last two year of my D3 career, note I focused all of my training on the 55m and 100m I did not train at all for the 200 or either jump, and my splits were always 51/54 in the 4x4.

Some of the fast and then absolutely terrible times in the races are due to 80 degree whether followed by 30 degree and rain/snow the next week due to our lovely climate, the fluxuation in the jumps is that plus I was terribly inconsistent until outdoor my senior year.

I will keep you all posted on my summer meet results as well as my one semester of fame at a small D1 school for indoor track where I have eligibility left due to a torn ankle ligaments my freshman year.

Just wanted to give a premeet update, I like to do this so I dont have any excuses afterword about how I ran or jumped.

Right now its nearing 90 deg out, light wind. The meet is about 2 1/2 hrs away or so but I believe its suppose to be about the same there.

I have a little bit of soreness/fatigue in the upper part of my hamstrings and some tightness in the lower part of my back, nothing major at all very minor. Feel very light on my feet right now so that good, if i get my steps down which I havent practice I now hope to hit 21’, but we shall see. The 100 I still feel like between 11.4-11.5 because of the soreness.

Umm I’m at 162 lbs today, thats about the only other thing I can think of. I’ll post back after the meet probably in like 8 or 9 hrs.

Good luck … look forward to seeing how things went!

Just got back from the meet.
Very pleased with the results.

Long Jump:

20’5.5
20’9.5
20’11
20’9.5
Foul (measured at my request 21’7, judge said I was less than an inch over)
Foul (steps way off)

Slight head wind for most if not all of the jumps.

100m:

11.2 HT (actually my timer had me at 11.0x but the timer for the first place kid had him at 11.1 so they upped my time, havent had time to look at video footage yet to get the real time.)

Got 2nd in the race, the first place kid was my roomate from college who has run 10.7 FAT this past yer so I was happy with my performance, I was beating him to around 80m though he has admitted to me that he has not been running much for the past month I was still content.

Either no wind or slight head wind during the race. All and all good condition, probably mid to high 80’s and a light breeze.

After further analysis the inaccuracies of handtiming have been displayed

appx timing 11.48

Still decent for not focusing on speed work yet.

So are you still Very pleased with the results.?

I jumped within an inch of what I thought I should at this point and ran within the .1 range I thought, I’d say thats a pretty good day.

If you thought you were going to run 13.3 - 13.4 and ran 13.38 would you still not think it was good?

Popequique, maybe you should try increasing your stride rate and stride length.

And todays premeet update forecast for state college 83 degrees and 30% chance of thunderstorms at 7pm, meet begins at 6:15. takes me around an hour and half to get there. Shins are still sore from yesterday and my mood has been poor the last few days, I wouldnt really go, but my local track closes its pits during the summer so the only chance I get to practice jumping is at meets.

I will most likely do the triple jump and either the long or 100. I never have any clue how far I will triple jump it flucuates like 2 or 3 feet meet to meet. If I do the long I would say around 20’7 and the 100 would be around 11.53. I will give you an update tonight, hopefully it doesnt get rained out.

My question wasn’t meant as a wind up, I’m sorry if you interpreted it as one. I was just clarifying after your statement of Still decent for not focusing on speed work yet. and thought you may have been feeling flat especially as you originally thought your 100m was 11.2HT.

Nay I really wasnt upset, I mean 11.2 ht is rarely ever going to be 11.2, I have seen 100 ht be off from .2 - .7 so it was about where I thought I’d find it.

Today:

100m - 11.19ht 2nd overall (11.44 after analysis)

Long Jump :

20’7.5
Foul (measured 21’7 from board 1 inch foul)
21’10 3rd overall

Triple Jump:

39’1
39’6
39’6 crapped on overall

Happy with the 100 considering my shins were sore during the whole meet, and I also thought a line at the 90m mark was the finish so I leaned and slowed down, could have probably been around 11.40.

The long jump i was very pleased with especially the last jump.

Triple jump I was ticked about, but it was 9:30pm and dark I just wanted to get home, and as you can tell its not quite my event.

Suppose to be 81 degrees at 7PM tomorrow at Penn State, 20% chance of rain. Right now my upper hamstrings are tight, but besides that I feel well rested and ready to go. Going out for the night so hopefully I am in good enough condition to do well tomorrow. Right now I expect around 22’ and 11.35 if conditions are favorable and I get a decent jump in. I’ll get you up to date tomorrow night after the meet.

I hope you kick butt!

go for it pope!!! kick ass

It seems that Pope now plans on ducking me, one of our alumni LJers, & Davan at a meet next Sunday. I might have to show up at his meet and talk trash to instigate him a-la Mr. T in Rocky III.

Yes!
Come on Pope–it’d be interesting to see the faces of these CF posters.

I emailed the guy last night, I will be at the games, beware, haha.

Poor performance today.

11.32h in the 100 3rd place

LJ

21’1
20’10
18’5 slipped on the board then bailed out

TJ

Foul
41’1
38’9

The 100 was real slow for some reason 2nd was my roomate 10.73fat and 1st was a kid from penn state I heard he was a 10.44 guy but I’m not sure if I believe either way they went 11.15 and 11.26 hand, I’ll have to look over it.

Long jump the first jump was like 5 minutes after the 100 so I was dead, 2nd jump I landed with my left foot around 6-8in behind the other. Last jump I slipped on the board and about broke my ankle.

Triple jump was well just shyt as usual.

11.34 11.47 11.54ME

These are approximations because I couldnt see the finish line because people were standing in front of it, the times might even be a tad fast. I also looked it up and I think the first place kid did run around the 10.44 that another kid told me.
