Since he’s a member of these boards, I’d like to wish G-Force good luck at the upcoming NCAAs.
LUBBOCK, Texas — Texas A&M sophomore Gerald Phiri, one of the top sprinters in the nation, took first place in three races Sunday, the second year in a row he’s done that at the Big 12 meet.
It was the first time a sprinter has finished first in three events two straight years.
He won his second-straight 100 meter in 10.35 seconds, beating Baylor junior Trey Harts, who ran it in 10.62.
“It feels good,” Phiri said. “It’s not so much being Big 12 champion. Last year I was the first double-Big12 champion ever, especially as freshman, so my job this weekend is to be the first double two-time Big 12 champion, and I’m halfway there.”
A short time later he won the 200 in 20.72 seconds.
He and his teammates also won the 100-meter relay. They ran it in 38.86 seconds, beating out Baylor’s 39.56-second time.
