patella surgery recovery

Ok I am training my friend whose is coming back from surgery on his partially torn patella tendon 13 months ago. I have him lifting using a westside barbell hybrid for his upper body, and for his lower body I have had him sticking to high rep squats, deads, stiff deads, glute ham raises, lunges, step ups, and sldl’s. He used to have very muscular legs, and he is coming along nicely with regaining his muscle. However he is a sprinter and a basketball player, and at some point I would like to see him able to squat heavy, though im not sure how i should ween him into this, or even if he will be able to again. He says at this point his knee is around 90%, but we will never know how good it is unless it is tested. I need suggestions on how transmit him from this high rep leg routine, to a power and speed routine

Recovering from this myself I would not advocate high reps since my tendon swells like hell when I do high reps. What kind of weight is he currently using?

well hes using about 115 pounds for squats, and like i said he is very well into his recovery from his surgery, 13 months, and i have him using very strict form with a wide base to put more stress on the hip girdle and less on the knees. he feels fine after no swelling or ne thing

charlie ne thots? one of ur athletes had to have gone thru this process
