I do my normal warmup which consists of 800 meter jog, stretch, 400 jog, drills, 400 jog.
then i do a few (3-4) buildups over 60 meters. during the spring we also do sticks which may be benificial as long as you do not over do it. Since baton work for the 4x1 are done at full intensity it fires up the CNS which i feel gets me ready to run the follwing day.
then 800 cooldown and stretch.
I will just do light drills while focusing on technique and posture. Then stretch for a half an hour along with visulization/concentration techniques which I do for most of the week. I make sure that when I step to that starting line, My CNS is well rested.
I would do starts the day before only if the day before that was totally off- otherwise, I’d chill. As my old coach, Percy used to say: “Never stand when you can sit. Never sit when you can lie down!”
If they had heats and finals, they’d take the day off. If they had a straight final, there were two options:
A: They could take a few starts the day before and take the day before that off.
B: If that wasn’t an option- there was a meet on what would have been an off day, for example, the day before would be off and an easy loosening warm-up would be done in the AM before breakfast. (just enough to raise the metabolism slightly throughout the day to make preparations for the final easier.)
i agree with charlie, but for some of my elite athletes who will run against weaker competition, i train through the meet, just because i want them to be ready for meets such as state and national championships which usually consist of trials and finals over 2 consecutive days.
I will listen to my music P DIDDY, NOTORIOUS B.I.G and relax. But in the back of my head i am alwys thinking about the next day. And i start to hyp myself up i get very angry! cause i want to do damage.:afro:
