Ols

Hello everybody,I’d like to learn Ols,but I don’t know how I can do it.

Actually I do with quite proper form deadlift, front squat and military press.

What can I do to approach to Ols?

Some people suggest that it’s useful learn to do first the power version…

What do you think?

p.s. please excuse me cause my English is not very good…

Try and find a good coach or training group. This can prove to be difficult. Your english is better than my italian.

Are you trying to learn them for sprinting purposes? If so, you might be better off spending the time learning the lift by doing other exercises such as med ball throws.

If you are just looking for a personal challenge, talk to Dan.

do a lot of med work, exercise like shrug and so on, try to learn by GPP video, and tape your exercise to show it at anyone who can tell you about your error.

Thanks Daniel…

I know that Ols are very complex, but I haven’t a coach that learn me how to perform they well…

So I only can learn by myself…

Hi Esti,I’d like to learn Olympic lifts not only for the sprint but 'cause I want to learn new movements that can be useful in the future or when I want to improve my general strenght…(I don’t know if I was able to explain well…)

And yes,it’s a personal challenge.

Mb throws?Yes,I just do them.

p.s. who’s Dan?

Hi homer( ),in GPP video I’ve seen that were performed some complete and partial Ols.

I know also that you do clean, where you learned it?

By the way, also looking GPP video,I’ve seen that there are some Ols and exercise that, with much attention and devotion, could be learned by oneself…such as power clean, hang clean, hang snatch, overhead squat(that I’ve just try),split squat jerk, push press or jerk…

Some interesting things about Ols…

It was been just posted.

Well, as usual, this is just one person’s opinion…

While I have not trained any elite level athletes, I also don’t think I’m sitting on the sidelines, yelling down from my ivory tower either.
With our athletes, most of whom would be classified as low to mid level qualification, we have had some success with using variations of the olympic lifts.
How do we measure success? Improved rate of force development…higher jumping results - higher results than those of athletes that have been training with squatting alone…
Sorry for the brief rant - now back to the thread…

silver, if you want to learn the lifts, perhaps you can find qualified coaching somewhere. Have you tried emailing/posting on Dr. Verkhoshansky’s site? I believe he is based in Rome now, and may have some leads on training centers.
As was mentioned before, I would not try to learn the lifts without qualified coaching, much as I would recommend against trying pole vaulting without qualified coaching!

Good luck!

Thank you devils.

I understand what you mean,I’ll try to contact Prof. Yuri Verkhoshansky, but I think that he could not help me,because of I live in a place so far from Rome…

If you can’t access a qualified coach to teach you, don’t waste your time mislearning the lifts; it defeats the purpose.

Agreed, without good technique the benefits of the OLs over something like squatting deminish rapidly and it becomes nothing more than another squat variation.

Thanks everybody.

I’ve just contacted the regional responsible and there is a person who is qualified to teaching.I hope he could help me…
