Looks the same as most as the Nike Zoom Waffles. I bet they charge double the price as well. But yes, if you’re not using track spikes or zoom waffles this would be the shoe to get. There is also one nike football cleat (low top really light) which is good as well and may be even better for the change of direction drills if done on fieldturf.
Track waffles would only be good on field turf right? Would it be useful on grass, astro turf as well?
It looks like they tried to do a cross between a track spike and a court shoe (so as to allow for linear sprinting as well as COD.)
Looks promising. I would love to try them out!
I’d say Track waffles would be fine on any surface that cross trainers or turf shoes would be good on.
The track and astro turf would prob be best for waffles. On field turf and grass you may want to go with a lightweight football cleat for better traction.
Well, I do all my testing on grass but if I ever go to a hs combine then I’ll probably think of buying them.
They’re pretty affordable too (39.99 US at eastbay.com) Reebok has some nice one’s too. They may be kinda useless to me right now but I have the nikes and 2 pairs of the reebok.
That’s really not that bad of a price. I used the nike free’s last summer on field turf, and they were pretty slippery during the agility drills I did. Did any of yall notice if anybody used shoes like these in this year’s nfl scouting combine?
everyone who train with tom shaw did.
Nike Vapors work very well for both the 40’s and the agility tests on field turf, although they are pretty expensive at $100+, especially when testing is about the only thing they are good for. They offer very little support, so are probably not a very good choice for playing in. They are very light, and have a better cleat pattern for grabbing the turf than normal circular cleats. Nike also makes some soccer Vapors that are lighter yet.
I don’t know if the waffles are good for any type of testing on field turf. I’ve only seen a couple guys test in them on field turf. They may not grab the turf quite well enough coming out of your 40 start. Definitely no good for the agility tests on field turf. Looking at the Nike Sparq Test Pro, I worry about the same thing-not having a long enough cleat to grab the field turf. We’ll have to see how they do.
i agree on field turf i like the cleats you mention or track spikes works pretty good also for the 40yd dash on field turf.
I’ve recommended these shoes to athletes performing 40’s in combines (where spikes weren’t permitted)… Basically classified as track flats (or x-country flats with rubber studs).
Alot of those shoes you posted are lighter than the sparq testing shoe.(8.9oz) Also pretty cheap.
they look like waffles, are those good on field turf.
The Asics brands worked well.
Seems like it’s all in the marketing… “If you do crappy in the combine, then it’s because you’re not wearing Nikes!”
do you think those shoes are better then football cleats on field turf which is like grass? i just think on field turf you need cleats. http://www.eastbay.com/catalog/productdetail/cm--GLOBAL%20SEARCH%3A%20KEYWORD%20SEARCH/supercat--home/model_nbr--61946/sku--10957041/
I agree. Seems like to change direction and “dig” you need something to dig with.
Those are a lot more expensive than the waffles. But I would go with the vapors when it comes to the 20yd shuttle, or L-drill. Would yall still use the waffles when doing linear events on field turf
dude on field turf use cleats, who cares they only cost 99 dollars thats not a bad price bc most skill guys use them in games also. waffles will give you 0 grip at the start.
I agree with this. I don’t think waffles, and waffle-like shoes give you enough grip or dig at the start of the 40 on field turf. Vapors=light, good dig, and not a lot of cushioning.
I would not wear the Vapors in games, however, they are very flimsy, the footplate isn’t very stiff, and they provide little support.
