How does everyone know what awaits? Didn’t everyone write off Mo and then Dwain, and now Tim? The best policy is to look at the results as they come up and track them, compared to previous years. One idea- look at the best times recorded by the top athletes over the last 5 years and count back from that date and see when they started runing fast times beforehand.

Cant argue with charlies, or clemson logic, they are both right. But I think people are basing it off of intuition, not any real statistics, more of just a fun thing, and not actually writing any sprinters off. Like if someone asked you “do you think the sox will win today” you say yes or no without any really thought.(oh course yes right clemson! ) I have this feeling they are. Ect, Ect. I believe that all the sprinters at the elite level on any given day have a chance of doing it. Regardless oh how the past 5 years have went. Look at Michael Johnson. 19.32 that wasnt at all expected and dont believe could be predicted by looking at the past five year. Anyways I think there are several sprinters who all have chances of doing it. Although I would say montgomery’s drifting from coach to coach might hurt him. Who knows though. They said babe ruths record could never be broken and it was, by his teamate in fact. I hope he does do it. He seems like the nicest sprinter out there. Go tim!

Me, too. I think if any sprint record goes, the one with the best chance is the women’s 400m and that has no chance. Ana Guevara is hot right now running smoking times, but with no real competition besides Sanya Richards, she won’t be pushed to run fast enough. I think Sanya might go sub-50, but who knows. I still say NO sprint record falls this year.
