Neuromuscular training

I was practicing my starts today with some resistance. When I performed the starts without the resistance, I was flying. My queston is, how can I always feel like this? Why does that feeling go away and what does one have to do to make it stick? It’s like the pump you get when bodybuilding, after sometime the pump goes. Would it be wise to practice resistance starts before a race?

You tricked your body into recruiting more musclar activity than you normally would. Some people do this before races. Maybe it would work for you?

I have no doubt that it will work for me but I’m afraid that I might get too tired for the race. Or might slow down after 30m. How can this feeling be maintained for as long as possible?

Haha, if one or two reps of resisted starts tires you out before the race I think something in your prep may be awry!

There may be an impact after you finish the acceleration phase because you have excited your ability to accelerate which is more horizontal as opposed to your max speed phase which is more vertical in nature. You might ending up pushing too much or starting to overstride? Hard to say. I think the best thing is to try it in practice.

DCW, if a resistance workout as a warm up does not make you tired before a race then you must tell me what you are taking.Hope it’s legal.

I have thought of trying it in practice and see what happens…

I said one or two reps. If this makes you tired you should not be lining up. Period.

I brought this up a while ago dealing with some 30’s in the grass.
I knew what was gonna happen but I didn’t expect it to be that much of a difference.

I ran 3x5x30, and I did the 1st set in the grass. The avg. of the 30’s in the grass was about 3.8 if I remember correctly. But after that when I did the 2nd set on the track, the 1st one was 3.4, and all the rest were 3.5. It wasn’t so much that they were faster, it was how little effort I was putting into it. After a while the effect went away and I did the last set on the curve with the fastest one being 3.7

I did 3x5x100 for a tempo session one day and I did the same thing, 1st set in the grass, and the next 2 sets were run on the curve, going in both directions. The 100’s in the grass were around 16 - 17, then I got on the track and ran 11.8 for the 1st one. I conciously tried to slow down for the rest, but the slowest I went was 13.9. And it felt like I was walking for that one.

If the brain is so powerful why is it so easily outsmarted? lol
Mind over matter my @$$.

Dcw, why would one or two reps make me tired? I did not indicate this so don’t assume.

Because only an idiot would try doing more and I didn’t assume that you were an idiot! You are right though, I don’t think I should assume
