Does anyone know if the general neural adaptations from weight lifting have a transfer over to something more specific such as cycling? Is this possible since I like to lift and would like to think it has some benifit for my riding. If you have a link to some reference that would be great. Amos
Lifting should benefit your cycling. Check out t-mag.com. Search Dr Jeff Spencer and/or SWIS review 2002.
People with greater leg strength perform better on bicycle VO2max tests than running VO2 tests. This would suggest that there is a link between leg strength and cycling performance. I don’t have any references for this. I learned it in exercise phys. As my teacher is tough and picky I’m sure that he could provide plenty of references.
Athletes with strong knee/hip extensors are typically heavier. Cycling would be advantageous to heavier individuals because it is not a weight bearing activity.
