In Training For Speed Charlie discusses muscle tone and fibre contraction that determines whether the muscle tone is low or high.
Low tone means more fibres uncontracted and greater power available.
He goes on to say that in competition it is better to commence with a lower tone and bring it up during the competition.
As there would be less uncontracted fibres available as the tone inreases does this mean that that the greater stretch reflex in the remaining fibres more than compensates for the decrease in available fibres.
My question is how quickly both in training and particularly in competition do the fibres uncontract and be ready to fire again, is it milliseconds ,minutes, hours, days etc? ,notwithstanding that the status can be changed by appropriate massage as stated in the discussion.
