I honestly think that there is a lot of room for improvement with her technique, her shoulders rotate and arms cross her center with every stride, her toes are very low on back side mechanics, i do not believe I can see triple extension and much more
How fast is this girl? 7.2?
overall organism strength would help tremendously. Last summer Dennis Shaver spoke about her at the Level 2 clinic, and I know that he is attempting to add some weight to that frame.
I agree with Charlie about watching technique in the last meters of a 200m. But I will throw my 2 cents in anyway. I´ll pretend that I am in the stands, and after she has just beaten my girl by 15 meters, I´ll attack her technique - but before I do, I am going to quote CFTS (p.14):
Quote: In absolute terms, each of your athletes has differences in body segment lengths, location of muscle attachments, etc. If the athlete is running well, you assume the physical idiosyncrasy is not a factor. Ben Johnson´s left knee carries out to the side when he runs. So what? If an idiosyncrasy does not impact a performance don´t tamper with it. Unquote.
My attack, or question, is: any differences between R/L recovery phases and why?

Drive… what did Shaver have to say about her training.
Hi-
This is my first post to this list. I work as a multi-event / jumps coach at LSU so I could tell you a little more about Muna. Despite her waif-like frame, she’s actually put on some weight this year and has gotten her weight room strength up quite a bit for the first time (she’s still not strong though). This is one of the reasons why Dennis thinks she’s running so fast this year. Her best event is actually the 200m and until this past year her 60m wasn’t up to the same level. She really is an amazing talent and if she could put on a little weight with concurrent strength / power gains she’d be a world beater.
As for her mechanics, Dennis is concerned a little bit about the arm swing but I believe he instead focused primarily on start mechanics this fall / winter which might also help to explain her fast 60m times.
And Charlie, her arm swing is similar in the 60m and 200m so that clip should give you a pretty decent idea of what it would look like even in the short sprints. Like you though, I don’t find it to be too much of a concern. I did my MS on the function of arm swing in sprinting and from my research I’d say that an arm swing that crosses the chest isn’t so much of an issue as shoulder rotation (which actually isn’t too bad for Muna). As a really general statement, I think that as long as the arms are countering the rotational moment of the legs, then they are doing their job regardless of the trajectory of the arm swing.
And for everyone’s info, I believe her best times are 7.15; 11.17; and 22.49 (indoors). She is definitely one to watch.
Re Arm action.
My initial thought was that she is pulling back rather than down from the hand, which limits the movement of the elbow ahead of the body (seen from the side), but the front on picture indicates very little problem in relation the the rotation at the shoulders and hip, so I’m not sure much should be changed till the effects of more power shorten her ground contact times.
BTW the front on shot is earlier in the race, and probably more illustrative of her true form, as the side shot is close to the tape and her shoulders are going up.
From a technical standpoint, I guess we can leave well enough alone for awhile! I’d like to see some footage from Mt Sac, to see if there has been some progress in the strength dept
