How does one deal with multiple successive meets? Tempo sessions in between them? Or just rest? Or some short speed work?
I’ll have three meets in a matter of 8 days starting this weekend. I’ll be running 100m. Saturday, 200m. Sunday, 100m. Wednesday, 100m. next Saturday and 200m. next Sunday. So I’ll have 2 days rest between each meet. This is my peak and all meets are equally very important.
My guess would be tempo at between 55-65% at slightly lowered volume for the first day, with relatively long rest periods, since this will probably not hurt your general fitness in a way that will affect you even by the last meet and I think would ensure maximum recovery.
Then the second day lots of stretching and that’s it. I’m just trying to start the discussion off though, its likely someone will come up with a better plan.
This is very typical of the European GP season. You have to consider such a series as a single great CNS load, which must be recovered from. After a 10 day recovery/taper period, you might well be ready for your highest performace due to a rebound/bounce from the load. Easy tempo sessions might help but must be weighed against any travel issues and the amt of effort that has to be expended to get to the workout site in the in-between days.
