Motor Unit Recruitment Graph - Positioning of resisted starts and 95% sprints

Charlie,

What’s the difference between towing and running downhill?

i find this thread to be great reading and for me very self satifying…

2 years ago i had one of my 16yr old male sprinters father come to me and say why arent we doing over speed i went through my reasoning in simple terms… at seasons end 1 week after running well under 11 secs for the first time the father called me and said we are going to train with ???..

the reasons being over speed he has the national champion and they use overspeed all season long and we feel our son wont improve any more under you at this point…

well in the 2 years have past since that day he has ran slower torn his hamstring 3 times and a groin once… and my other athletes whom back then were not judged fast or good enough as training partners have now surpassed him…

in the end i feel sorry for the athlete he is a great kid but stories like this im sure are plentyfull and just goes to show information can be dangerous in an idiots hand…

well thats my bitch outta the way for the week…

Just a matter of “degrees” of how fast you go downhill with them!

charlie

you say downhill is far better then towing…
so if you had access when you were coaching would u have ever used a mondo 2 degree slope…

we have one here at the training centre and when i am away they use it for speed work but i prefer to keep them off it while i am here and have explained to other coaches all the negative effects…

by the way hamstring injuries here are chronic with sprinters at all levels from high school to opens…

What is 2degrees like to run UP? We have chronic hamstring problems here as well but no 2 degree slope! It has been discussed on the forum before that the release characteristic of the modern day tracks might be a problem. I know some world class coaches from the 50s and 60s who said they almost never say hamstring injuries while running on sinder tracks…

Read my post again! I don’t like either!

Check out Charlie’s clip on the Swis website for why he doesn’t like it!
