I train well during practices, that my times are always consistent. Ie : the 200m I ran sub 22s ,
last race I got lane 1 , even though I won my heat my time was aweful. 23.52 a second slower than my usual.
I just have trouble concentrating !! 5 mins before a race I am hyperventalating. I still ran goods times usually, but becasue of this anxiety I can never ran my full performance.
My question to you people , is what do you do to relax yourself before the race ? I know there are some really confident sprinters out there but…
I really need some tips !! Anyone got some exercises for the mind ?
First, no one will run great times out of lane 1. Practice times are not the most accurate. Times are probably started from first movement and hand timed finish as well for probably at least a .6 difference in times from actual, maybe even more if there is a rolling start involved.
Try this before some of your runs,
hold your breath for 30-45 seconds. This will get your heart rate up like in a competition and make the atmosphere similar. Clemson suggested this previously and I have noticed that it definitely helps get you ready for what the real deal is going to be like.
