In this link John Smith talks about delaying acceleration in order to acquire more speed towards the finish. Does this mean staying relaxed in the drive phase instead of pumping like a maniac or actually holding back? Also I noticed that when I do flying 20s I feel faster the I normally run could this reaction be related to the delayed acceleration? http://youtube.com/watch?v=F-yyHi8weHk
There has been some discussion on the forum about this. I certainly think that you want to have a relaxed acceleration and not pushing it Leonard Scott only to die off the last 40m. When you look at the splits of the HSI guys though, they certainly aren’t holding anything back, so I think this sort of advice may act as a cue for them to relax instead of pushing it too hard all the way.
without watching the link i think he uses the same set-up as tom tellez.accelerate to 60,maintain to 75 and take it home.but you must realise that most elite sub 10 guys will accelerate to 60 anyway but where does this leave the guys who run 11 or 12?
the main thing is to 1-stay relaxed,2-once you reach top speed try to relax even more and 3-do not fight the deceleration phase and it will happen to any sprinter at any level
Is it possible to fatigue the muscle in the accel phase causing a slightly lower top speed?
You can cause a LOT slower top speed if you struggle but if you relax, you’ll likely have a better accel as well as better top speed. For example, JS’s people were hardly delaying acceleration when you look at their 30m numbers- 3.76e for MO!
This would explains why I feel much faster during flying 20s. thanks CF
