I’ve been reading articles on t-mag.com for almost 2 years now and I’ve read all of Davies’ articles. I do see while some people might see his ideas as too extreme, but I think some of his ideas might be beneficial to some athletes. I don’t want to start a flame war or anything i was just curious as to why everyone here seems to dislike him.
He has lied about working with Charlie and Ben to a few individuals (Buddy Morris, etc). There may be more reasons but he has turned into a soap opera.
“The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.”
Albert Einstein
To clarify…
“Any intelligent fool can make things bigger and more complex… It takes a touch of genius - and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction.”
Albert Einstein
You just opened up a can of worms!!!
Point1: It appears as if he really doesn’t know anything but he can take other people’s ideas and string them together and then convince somebody that there is some sort of progression! A world class coach can tell you what you are doing and why you are doing it and the later the results you obtain from such a coach speak for themselves.
Point 2: He overemphasizes the warrior mentality. To him if you don’t succeed in something, its bc you didn’t try hard enough! So in other words, overtraining does not exist in his vocabulary! “No pain No gain”, well we all know how well that works! It does take a warrior mentality on the football field but that doesn’t mean you should ignore commen sense and proven methods such as periodization. “Even Rocky Balboa’s trainer Mickey was smart enough to know the difference between too much of one thing and not enough of another” JD’s programs might be good for a GPP phase but his programs look like they have been ripped off by copying other people’s work without knowing the proper steps in what the program does and what each step means. An example of this is Istavan Javorek’s conditioning programs that have a clear method to conditioning an athlete; whereas, JD has a program called the “Bear” (or something like that) that has no clear steps on why you are doing what you are doing. Compare the Bear side by side to Javorek’s programs and you will see which man looks like a genious and which one looks like a retard.
Point 3: As mentioned before, JD has lied about working with individuals such as, Charlie Francis, Ben Johnson, Maradonna. If JD actually had some integretaty he would have known that he could have seeked out CF and BJ and actually learn from these great men. Instead he just lied about it! Sure lying about it did get JD’s foot in the door but now every NFL team knows about his BS and he will never ever work for an NFL team ever again! That’s a pretty high price to pay for such a bone head thing to do. Hell it wouldn’t have cost him more than a couple of hundred dollar bills to actually work with these guys and later he could have stated that he worked with BJ and CF and have them as references! Then he could have actually learned something and get real S&C jobs with NFL teams for the duration of his coaching career!
Just do a search of JD on this website read everything about him here and then tell me your still a fan of JD.
Wow…after hearing about the lies he made about workin with CF and Ben, i’ve lost a lot of respect for him. I think there might be some truth in him taking others programs and using them as his own but i think there is some originality in them. What does everyone think about his incorporation of lifts such as the overhead squat, bent press, and 1 armed snatch and clean. I think these would be highly beneficial to any athlete. I know they are not his own idea or anything but he does tend to emphasize some radical lifts that you rarely see in most programs. Any input on how effective some of these lifts are?
Just because it’s new doesn’t mean it is good. Besides he rehashes old stuff, that was found not to be useful, and barfs it back up. Many people have commented on this here at CF.com. I’ve actually met him, I’m not proud of that by the way, and had a little question constantly in the back of my mind. It was, “I don’t agree with that, but he is…!”. For some dumb reason I initially didn’t listen to that deep thought. Just my 2 cent.
Enough Davies bashing. Its lame and boring.
