Jay Schroeder, Adam Archuleta-type plyo training source?

Much of what is “accepted” is just plain wrong and many with advanced degrees have merely studied that which is wrong in greater depth.

In one sentence Charlie has summated one of the highest truths in existence, regarding this particular field of study.

asd123, I graduated from Berklee College of Music where I studied Jazz. Guitar is my instrument.
Thanks for the words on the site.

James you can never go wrong with Jazz!!!Old stuff neww stuff, I like Clapton! Articles on your site are good man!!! The the applying westside to pullups dips is awsome idea! Well written I recommend all the articles for people interested in the field!!!

Charlie, this is kind of dumb to ask but with all of the stuff out there on the net and in books today why do these people continue to just igonre what seems to be working for so many? Or at least trying out new stuff, or at least thinking about new ideas, some people seem to think there is only one way, maybe there is but I hav not found it… You would assume that people with such advanced degrees would be more open to new knowledge??? But what the hell do I know I have never worked i the field, so I cannot say. :frowning:

I couldn’t agree more. It’s like taking the CSCS exam, you better learn what they want you to say and then scrap most of it.

SVS:

There have been cases of a lifter training using the Metal Militia style of bench shirt mastery and lockout training doing over 600lb with a custom fitted double denim shirt, while only being able to bench ~320 lbs raw.

So, I would say that yes, you would be able to do over 600 in a shirt if you had the proper shirt, the motivation, and some dedicated training. You’d probably need the help of a very skilled shirt technician like Sebastian Burns or Mike Miller.

If you are interested in these methods, www.naz-bar.com is the place to check them out.

Regards

Or you could just stick with real benching:

Just a thought

You don’t get the point.

The extreme equipment powerlifting is evolving into it’s own kind of sport. If you compete in that type of competition, you better bring the right gear.

You want to bench raw go to a raw meet or a meet with a raw division. You want to go berserk with anabolics and multilayer canvas, go with the unlimited feds.

Powerlifting should never get into the olympics, because it’s too fragmented, and too many people like their extreme gear. They like it because it’s fun and different (if somewhat painful)

It’s like racing on a gravel track barefoot when your opponent is on a new high tech track with his favorite spikes.

The powerlifting gear debate strikes again!!!

I didn’t intend for a thread hijack, just a little dis at the “sport” that PLing has become, or at least, that some factions have become. I’m not gonna get into that whole thing, we can do it in another thread if people want.

But that bare feet v. spikes argument is used all the time, and it’s wrong. It’s more like competing in spikes v. someone using powerskips.

Someone, who’s usually never competed in PL at all, has to bring the whole thing up.

I’ve competed raw, I’ve competed in gear, and I’ll continue to compete in the meets I can travel to, in the appropriate gear, or lack thereof.

It’s about the competition, the lifting, and the guys I see 3-4 times a year.

I’ve also competed in an APF Open event raw. I got nothing but respect. And I out totaled 2-3 guys who were wearing denim shirts and canvas suits. They were some weak dudes.

If you’re referring to me, I have competed, although not at a high level I admit. But who cares about this tired old debate anyway . . . I was just throwing in a one-liner, with props to The Man, James Henderson.

Unfortunately bc of suits being utilized in powerlifting I will never enter that sport unless I can beat those guys without a suit or I will enter “Raw” meets. The reason I have decided to do this is bc I am sprinter as well and using bench suits will not make me a better sprinter/athlete; whereas, doing raw bench press will!

Nothing against powerlifting athletes but when the equipment can add 200 lbs to somebody’s bench press who can’t even do a 405 raw bench press; It makes you think, “What’s the Point?” I mean you can’t wear these suits to give you an advantage on the track/field.

This PL will stick with the old fashioned “RAW” lifting!

You bring up a good point SV. It is a tired debte, and the carryover of using suits to preparnig athletes other than PL’ers is, in my best guess, limited.

Just wanted to get people’s opinion on this,
