Istvan Balyi-Long Term Athlete Development

Hi everyone,

I came across a guy called Istvan Balyi who here in the UK it seems is quite highly regarded for his work in the area of periodization. Basically from youngster to high level athlete.

Here is an article about his approach:

Thought people might like to read up on his methods. Has anyone here had any experience with Istvan’s periodization or does anyone know much about it?

If so I would love to hear what you think.

Regards.

He presented at a conference in Glasgow back in 1998 (I think) he was originaly involved in Gymnastics in Eastern Europe.

there is a UKA Athlete Development Model which is somehow based on this, but really aimed at sprinting. I guess Tom Crick was an editor of it. Try to google it. It is really good.

The LTAD model has been extensively developed and accepted within the Canadian sport system And Candian Sport Centres. Most of the literature can be found at the Canadian Sport for Life website.

Most of the National Sport Organizations have developed sport specific LTAD models, with some of them being posted on the site.
