International baller

Do you guys think any american universities (D2) will give a international student a scholarship if he run 10.6-11.0 the 100m?

No way, there are thousands of athletes in the USA that run 10.6 and they would take a chance on them before they would an international kid. Your best chance would be 10.3-10.4.

actually a legit 10.6 fat wind legal would put you in the top 100 easily on the high school leader board any given year. an 11.0ht not as much.

but tamfb, if the grades are there, and the school isn’t very strong in track and doesn’t have a policy of delenating between instate and out of state students for athletic scholarships then a 10.6 guy from somewhere else is just as attractive as someone running it an america, and alot less competition to recruit, i’d imagine.

obviously you have to add some qualifers, some footy player from england whose run a 10.9w won’t be getting a scholarship, but a 10.6 and 21.5 guy probably will.

i mean FSU, LSU, Iona in cross country, UTEP, are all built on non americans or at least rely heavily on them.

So are you saying a 10.6 will get a full ride in track and field? I don’t know many track athletes at the d2 level who get full rides. For a school to give an international kid a full ride he must show major potential for example in basketball a 7 footer from Africa.

i didn’t say full, but if you find the right school, possibly.

he could def get alot of money at alot of d2 places, if he’s a 10.6 guy, esp if he has another event like long jump or is a good 200 runner.

it would also have to depend on the competitiveness of the school, some d2 programs, esp those in the northeast, are actually pretty good and a 10.6 runner might not be getting much money just because they have to spread it out over all of the event areas.

Nope he only does one event and pr at this time is 11.2 but has talent to get 10.6… Im guessing most d2 schools would offer 1000-2000 bucks for track but football would offer alot more and at times full.

well d1-aa football, or whatever they call it nowadays, is basically fully funded and anyone sub 11 would be an asset.

nope, most d2 football teams dont give fr full rides there first year they must earn it.

There is a difference between D-1AA and D-2, am I wrong?

Yes, D-1AA = sam houston and D-2 texas a&m kingsville

OK well, would that make a difference of the athlete’s chances of getting a scholarship?

i think it would.

i said 1-aa…

and this thread is about d2 not 1-aa.

theres not a whole lot of difference between a bad 1-aa and a good d2

for the most part your right, the main diff is this lil thing called funding/money.

then shooting for a bad D-1aa if money is an issue would seem ideal.

Dont you understand that track isnt a money sports in the states and most small school track athletes only get partial scholarships. As a track coach if you had one athlete in texas running 10.6 and another athlete in japan running 10.6, i will take the athlete from the states cheaper and easier process.

you were talking football…

the only people getting fulls in track are 13:10 5k runners, 10.1 100 runners and 27 foot long jumpers, i’m well aware of that.

Do you guys think any american universities b[/b] will give a international student a scholarship if he run 10.6-11.0 the 100m?
