Injury prevention (for want of better word)

I just went to presentation from a physio and he discussed about injury prevention, rehabbing and recovery (nothing specific)

The main points I got out of this, was;

  1. Training Load - Intensity, Volume and Density

Do more than you are able to handle you get injured
2. It takes longer to come back from an injury than it does to get the injury (he meant the injury that stops you & not the niggle)

  1. Injuries are most likely to occur

At commencement of training after a period of not training
Changes in training phases - emphasis of training
After PB’s or good performances

What was interesting was talking about a sprinter.

Long story short

Was in europe, training with another squad with sprinters faster then himself. His training load in volume was higher then hecould handle but the he was running pb’s every session.

He trained with this squad 3 or 4 times, then competed and run a pb. He then trained twice with the same squad 2 times the next week and hurt his hamstring on the race that weekend. So over a 2 week time frame he had pb’s or close to four times.

Reminded me of Charlies CNS cup and introducing a recovery period after a good performance.
