Better description down there…
When,in a standing position, I lift the knee to hip-height ,just the smallest amount of inward rotation makes the pain in the hip/gluteals severe.
I might add that the inclussion of a piriformis stretch in my stretching routine has actually aggrevated the pain ,while the standard lying on the back and bringing the knee to the chest stretch seems to help.
Also i get numb in the area where the hamstring muscles meet the gluteals.
Anyone experience this?
Probably a strain in the gluteus maximus…
I’m not an expert but I think pain in the area you’re describing is often associated with bursitis. You might want to run a google search on “hip bursitis” and see if the descriptions of symptoms match your own.
Thank you for your suggestion, but the pain is now felt in the middle of the gluteus maximus only.
Also proper stretching of the maximus has made the pain diminish ,and the only time I feel something now is when I bring the knee inwards and the lower leg outwards ,simultanously.
your right, when I do any periformis stretch, my left glute actually has mild pain afterwards.
Maybe we shouldn’t do that one.LOL
ray_ivory, have you tried doing the stretch seated? On track yesterday I still felt some pain in my buttock ,but after doing a “sitting on the track with legs flexed and placing the right ankle on the opposite thigh while leaning forward” I was able to run without pain.
At home I do the stretch seated on a chair - no pain felt this way.
