help with programme outline

Will this is a brand new year, I thinking of going for a l- s approach since all of my athlete’s are 100-400.

Just wondering if I could get some input on my programme.

Monday- accel. work/ 2x 600/strength endurance work.
Tuesday- tempo
Wedesday- relay handoff or some type of recovery work
Thursday- accel. work/2x300/strength endurance work
Friday- tempo

Monday working on SE 1 and Thursday working on SE 2, as season progress both sides will go downward as seen on graph( Vancouver Series I DVD)Starting both sides at 80% of max, with a 2% progression every two weeks.

My hurdler’s are doing the same programme except for tuesday and thursday which are their hurdling days.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Feedback on what, you are giving us a sample template and nothing else.

Looks like SE2 Mon and SE1 Thurs. OK as a starting point- how far out are the accels?
What progression do you plan and over how many weeks?

sorry guys for not being more specific, We have just finished up our GPP and the kids are on their own until jan. 12. That’s when they have to report back to school, now we do not have a indoor season, so we only have one peak time for performance. which is in May.

First track meet is Feb. 28, I was going to use the first 4 meets as pre-comp. Meaning using the track meet as a HIT session. So, I probably could switch thursday with saturday, and have thursday as another tempo day.

Just want to max. the athlete’s protential., just want to know is this a smart approach.

In the pre-comp, you could use the meets as your second SE session as you say- so move the other SE to Tues and do starts and short accels on Thurs.

thanks for the reply Charlie, acceleration & strength endurance work are the same as on the Vancouver graph.

I was going to follow the graph excatly for 9 weeks and start the int. at 80% of max. moving up 2% every two weeks.

Which would give me a month before our major championship meet. That month prior to meet plan on working on 2 speed endurance days and 1 speed day.

So, turn Monday into a tempo or circuit day, and leave Wednesday a recovery day?

Other question if you don’t mind, is it possible to use that first month back to have SE session on Mon. and thursday and switch to tuesday and sat. the next month since we do not have a track meet that first month. Are will this just simple mess up the athlete.

Yes, leave Mon-Thurs as you suggest till meets come up and then adjust to Tues to allow enough recovery after Sat meets- no prob to adjust at all.

Thanks a bunch Charlie, you have help me out alot.
Just one finally question, when going into that finally month before that major championship meet. I was wanting to transition into more speed/ speed endurance type of work. Without causing injuries to the athlete.
So, my question is, is this a realistic approach a month before big meet, or should I just stay the course, and just leave more time for recovery.

If it is a realistic approach, what is a good place to start with speed work outside of the accel. work already in place.
Once again thanks.

Is this something you always do during the season, rest on sun, tempo on mon, speed on tue?

Depends on the meet to some extent but college/high school meets usually have a number of events so Tues sp works better.

Stay the course and let the meets bring them to a peak

Normally in the past I would rest on sun, speed work on mon, and tempo on tues. Following the s-l approach. This year going for the l-s approach.
