This is a video of my start. Am i doing anything wrong?
Any tips or suggestions?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

run on a track. running on concrete is pretty bad for your knees and shins and everything. what sport are you looking to improve your start for?

track, i run hurdles and sprints

how old are you? what grade are you in?

your start for the hurdles and the sprints will be completely different.

chances are though that you dont even need to worry about your start too much.

focus on your form and technique. starts can wait especially if you are in high school there are soo many other things that you can do to help you get faster.

not to be discouraging or anything but just trying to be honest.

triple extension. btw thats pretty ghetto doing block starts on the street lmao

Doesnt matter, you have to use what you have. Not all of us HS athletes have instant access to the track anytime.

I am 16, im a sophomore in high school, that was how i would start in a sprint. i stand up earlier when starting for hurdles. Do you think that if i posted a video of my top speed mechanics that would be more important to my improvement. Based on my start, what would you estimate it looks like i could run 55m in?

Looks like you need to get your hips higher up and back when in the set position. This should clean up a few of the other things I saw. Also more arm drive first few steps.

I agree with you Quik, hips higher, but not so far forward in the set position. Try that then send us another clip and we can take it from there. Difference with sprint hurdles is that you need to be upright by the 5th stride to set yourself up for the first hurdle, whereas the flat sprint you will aim to stay low for longer. Good luck. PS Try to get the camera a bit closer next time so we can see your foot positions.

I’ll do that, this time i’ll try to get the video at the track in real blocks.

yea getting out of real blocks is a good idea.

i was looking for help with my start as well and i realized that not actually coming out of blocks didnt help much when asking others to give me feedback. i even posted pictures with my imaginary blocks lol
