My question isn’t in regards to how to do GPP, but what to do in a certain situation.
I just started college, and it hasn’t exactly been an easy road. My first room situation sucked (they stayed up to late, played loud music, although they respected me when I asked them to turn it down, things just didn’t work out). So I moved out of there after two weeks, which was a hassle to move again. Second, I am currently running unattached. That means I dont get all the perks the athletes do. I had to find a place that actually served real food, and found one, but they only are open Monday through Thursday, so I have to go to golden Corral Friday through Saturday.
Long story short, my GPP has gone to hell. My first week was the only training week I was able to complete (that was when I wasn’t at college). I been looking for a hill, but havn’t been able to find one, so I will be heading down over the weekend to go get my tire. So, next week will be the one week when I figured out everything and have everything ready (which is sad, but its a long long story).
Next week will be my “fifth week” of my planned “seven week” GPP. I planned on doing time trails (mock indoor meets) December 25-the week of January 8th. Then I would take a week off, start oudoor GPP, SPP, then do real meets and peak in June at a big meet where you can sprint unattached.
So, what exactly should I do about the GPP situation? Start the 1st week next week, and compress the SPP phase? Just do two weeks of GPP and do the 12 week planned SPP? I hate that this had to happen and it wasn’t planned. But I’ve learned about the dorm/college situation, and will make sure everything is set up right for me before I come back after Christmas break. THanks for any help, hopefully this isn’t too confusing (there is some guy next door playing a guitar [its quiet at night though]).
By the looks of it the indoor meets are not of great importance. Therefore, I don’t think compromising your GPP I is a good idea. For now and for the rest of your season. A limited SPP I doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t just test things indoors and plan/act accordingly for outdoors.
Hope it helps!
So, basically, start from scratch, week 1, and then do a limited version of SPP1, then test at the planned time. Just trying to understand what you are recomending. Yes, the indoor season was just a test on an outdoor track (I live in the south;warmer weather) to see where I am. The testing would be over 3 weeks, but with this, I may have to limit it to 2.
Not sure how best to structure your GPP I (e.g., duration), you know better! I just wouldn’t compromise this phase for “mock indoor meets”. Are these indoor, or outdoor now? What’s the distance?
Irrespective, there is still some good time for a decent SPP I of about 8 weeks, if I am right here, which should be enough under the circumstances (trials only) and especially if we are talking about a S-to-L approach and 60 m races.
What have you got in your mind? Others?
how much time have you got? How important are the early meets if you’re not competing for the school? What is your age, level, and number of years training? Generally the more background you have, the higher the level, and the closer you are to your last competition, the shorter the GPP can be.
My time frame was made on the basis of me peaking of the third week of June (I would do a double peak [one during the “mock trials” and one at June). Time wise, I have enough time in the day to train, I scheduled classes to allow this. The problem was with other issues (long story), but everything will be worked out so I can start up next week onwards.
As far as background, this will be my first year competing in the 100m and 200m. I did sprinting in HS, but that is a long story as well. I did the 400m, wanted to do the 200m, etc. Anyways, that mess is over with, and want to start up with the 100m and 200m. Under the circumstances, I would think the 7 week GPP would be good, but when I peak in June, I have goals to hit a time that would give me a very nice chance of getting some scholarships. I don’t have official “times” in these events (up to date at least) but I have an idea from my training/experience.
So, Charlie or others, would you recomend to me to cut the GPP short or the SPP short. I saw what you said, Nik, thanks for the input. Just curious what Charlie or others would think as well. The comp period (time trial weeks) would be a three week period from Dec18-the week of Jan 1st.
So the two choices would be:
a.) Do a three week GPP; 12 week SPP; 3 week Testing
b.) Do a 7 week GPP; 7 week SPP; 3 week Testing
c.) Do 7 week GPP; 8 week SPP; 2 week Testing
etc. etc. etc.
Any ideas or comments from Charlie or others would be great. Thanks.
These would be indoor distances (60m). I would just be doing time trials on an outdoor track. Its down south, and only seen snow (if you can call it that, more like a flurry) in this state once in the five years I’ve been here.
I havent done any hills last winter so i did soem tracht work.
At the end it worked out, i mean i am not a potential 45 running so i guessed i could change soem workouts.
MAy be the same to you. Do what you can, dont get stressed if some thongs arent there for you. Just find some nice alternative.
Why are you going to run with a tire? wanst the hill workout to get more form, and isnt a tire workout very hard to keep running i ngood form?
Do a search in the forum, it was said that pulling a tire (not one too heavy) pretty much does the same thing a hill does. Of course one would rather use a hill, but when isn’t avaliable, you have to do the next best thing.
Again, anyone have any ideas which road I should take with the above?
