Everything I wanted to say after reading the first post has been said already. I would def. love to see this revolutionary bodyweight program. I can do 32 pullups and 55 dips. Where would you start with me? I also bench press 335 (weighing 157 pounds) pounds so weighted pushups won’t cut it unless someone is standing on my back.
Well, what can I say that has not already been said.
Seanjos is right when he describes the results as miraculous. I can’t really imagine a training regime that will make an already fit athlete(so I presume strong and fast) better his/her performance in such manner. That is an absolute miracle.
I have never in my athletic career heard such a ludicrous statement.
Maybe his athletes were not as fit as he thought they were.
Someone, or the football team?
wow, i think i am going to quit track and absolve myself of haveing ever particapated in orgainized sports and follow this guy’s HIT program, nice knowing ya’ll, but i am now preoccupied in my role as admin of http://hit-nazis.com
I actually just tried pushups with my roomate who is 180 pounds on my back. Very difficult. I can only do 4.
I hope no one walked in while this was going on. There would surely be stories!
Did you gain your 2 pounds of lean mass yet?
Haha… he gained 180lbs of lean muscle mass - then his roommate jumped of his back and he lost it. That’s what I call catabolic.
“Hey, did I put on 180lbs of lean muscle mass through HIT, or is that just my roommate on my back again??!!”
In jumping on the bandwagon some of you have strayed from the point.
quikazhell I don’t know of what “revolutionary body weight” program I’ve stated, I can only refer you to my first post :
“We use only body weight calisthenics which we add resistance to when the reps get too high (duration low=intensity high) e.g a weight belt for dips”
We kept the same exercises (regular millenium old gymnastic exercises) but when they were strong enough that they could go well over the desired rep range (after the first workout.lol) we would add a weighted belt or a partner on back (I know, they are tough.)
Also I seem to have been confused with a H.I.T salesman, I didn’t make any claims about what it would do for you or your athletes only what we achieved. If your boys are running 4.2 then first off congratulations but I would of thought it was obvious that if we improved nearly 4 tenths then we weren’t.
The boys are 17 and 18 years old and before we met, I would say had “adeqaute” pace for their sport (football) with the fastest 40 yard time recorded being 4.45 (after a few cues) and the slowest 4.59
I have more to write on this but will continue it later. I’m rather enjoying this debate and if anyone else feels the need to attack, then do.
Seanjos
Still waiting for the miraculous details of this training.
Mr Francis,
I go back to work monday , so then I can post the workout details and data if interested, (although it is simply the routine put forth in “MIM”.)
Mr Francis it perplexes (and to be honest amuses me) that a coach of your caliber is surprised and cynical about these results.
The numbers I put forward were miraculuous, compared to previous results I had with the “more is better” approach to size and strength gains.
However I have come to learn from my meeting with H.I.T proponents that such gains are not uncommon among them and that our “miraculous” results were actually just above average.
A trip to the testimonials page on Mentzer.com will tell you this.

p.s
mentzer.com used to display the clients phone numbers to prove their authenticity; until they were so barraged with phonecalls from around the world that they found they couldn’t continue their work as they were never off the phone. They ended up just posting pictures of themselves.
awaiting your program with interest…
but for some reason the sight of molasses flowing uphill sticks in my mind…
I was one of the first strength coach’s in the UK to complete Mentzer’s high intensity training courses about 10 years ago, since then I have worked with many of the World’s leading strength and conditioning coach’s (Charle’s Poliquin, Louis Simmons, Jim Schmitz, Paul Chek and Charlie Francis). And I’ve had the benefit’s of applying my methods in the real world of professional rugby for the last 8 years, winning 4 league titles & 2 cup finals.
So I believe I’m in a good position to judge the claims that you have made, to say that your athlete’s have made strength gains of 220% is an outstanding statement I can only presume you must have started them doing dips in the nude and then gradually added their clothe’s over a period of 3 month’s and then for more resistance you added their belt!!!
Sean to understand strength you must be strong yourself something I learn’t from Louis Simmons, now I would be really interested to know what you Clean, Snatch, Squat, Dead & Bench because if you only use bodyweight exercises to get strong then you are conning the athlete’s you train and may I suggest you try becoming an aerobics instructor!
And just to finnish I have respect for the late Mike Mentzer and it’s a shame that idiots like you come out with such a claim, I strongly believe that if Mike was still alive even he would read your claims with disbelief!
Gimme more!!
LOL.
Wow you sound a very well qualified and successful coach, I imagine you’d even be quite famous. However with such claims about yourself I can only imagine your on a witness protection program as you managed to forget your name, the league/competion’s name, and your teams name. Hmmmmm
Excuse me for thinking of you as a frustrated pencil-necked gym rat, but I left my name and my clubs address which you can find online.
Please feel free to visit us (Tue & Thu) and you can see the how strong and fast, “idiots” are for yourself (and me you.)
But if your expecting naked dips I feel you’ll be disappointed.

P.s - in regards to the 220% strength you’ve obviously not read Mentzer’s “MIM”, you should read the final chapter “what is possible” on this subject and then with the embarassment throw yourself of a bridge.
First off. Most people here have site names, often for professional reasons. In many cases, you might be quite surprised to learn who you’re talking down to. I do know this gentleman and he is no pencilneck- as, hopefully, you won’t learn if he’s anywhere near you.
Frankly, you’re answer here is typically evasive.
Once again, you haven’t answered the question, you’ve attacked the questioner.
In any event, whether he wants to share his name or not, you know who I am.
He,and I, and everyone else are waiting for you to post a simple verifiable response. What was the strength of your athletes before and what is it now? We need to talk about lifting capacity as a measure of strength, not about starting with 10 push-ups and going to 22, that’s fitness. Not about going from lifting 50 lbs in the squat to 120lbs, that’s 2 weeks on any program. It’s time to answer.
im sorry sean jos but i dont believe either. success in the speed strength world is a slow, long term process. well it is for me and all my peers anyway and everyone on this site. thats why we have a journal section with threads over 2 years long…
.37s off a 40 time takes years for an intermediate athlete (i class an intermediate athlete as sub 5s 40yrd) if possible at all
adding 24lbs of lean muscle at the same time is just impossible.
220% increase in strength would see me going to the olympics competing in beijing and setting almost unbreakable world records in c&j and snatch. id also be able to deadlift over 1000lbs. from only 3 months of weighted dips and calisthenics.
you’ll excuse me if i dont throw myself off a bridge just yet…
You are obviously a fucking idiot I tried to be quite diplomatic in my response to your pathetic claims I’m sure our path’s will cross soon I will send you an invite very soon to the club where I’m the head strength & conditioner - and we will have a workout together - will you need a spotter for the fucking broom handle you can just about squat.
Sean Jos,
Is Sale and Manchester Harriers the same club as Sale Harriers? e.g. http://www.saleharriersmanchester.com/main.asp?section_id=10
Although I can understand that you may well have seen good strength improvements using a Heavy Duty programme, I suggest that you severely underestimate the complexity of the situation with regard to Charlie’s training system.
As Charlie suggests by the title of his piece “…good intentions”, it is not that what you suggest doesn’t work to some extent but that you underestimate how training elements fit together and interact. Hence your good intentions actually limit the athlete with respect to other parts of their programme.
When combined with other elements of a programme performed by a highly qualified athletes you cannot get away with 3-6 exercise carried to muscular fatigue every time you work out in the gym. The amount of stress this would place upon an athlete running sub 10 who can squat around 2.5-3 times his bodyweight would be impossible to organise into a programme. Furthermore, you cannot perform a HIT programme during race season and achieve a good taper. To do so would be disastrous.
Rather than attacking Charlie, I suggest you listen to what he has to offer. If you look closely you may even notice some parallels in his training philosophy with respect to Mike’s views. They are both minimalists, they both believe that practicing the sporting event comes before strength training, they both believe you don’t get “fast” in the weight room but rather develop qualities that help you in your sport etc etc…
Mike, Arthur Jones, Doug McGuff, Brian Johnston, Ken Hutchins etc have a lot of interesting things to say. I use Arthur’s quotes daily and I will remind you of one right now:
“We (the Wright Brothers) work on the assumption that everything we believe to be true is untrue, otherwise improvement is impossible.”
With this fresh in your mind, I hope you can recognise from the fact that I can quote a lot of these guys work verbatum that I know something of HIT. And the best bit is that since I know its strong points I know its limitations and when it comes to training elite athletic populations I suggest you take Arthurs advice and read with an open mind as much as you can posted by Charlie on this forum. He has the missing bits of your puzzle.
Regards,
TC
Come on now , lets be civil.
Mr Francis has already spoke out that he knows you, why would you lower whatever value you have to him by shouting off like some attention seeking child (I never realised I was so important here.)
You have all asked me many questions some I have answered in prior posts, I will not repeat myself.
To the unanswered ones, I’m back in work monday i’ll give the data from there.
Night night
(this post is not directed at TC)
It’s possible that the 40s came down that much, depending on how they’re timed, but for the rest…
