Hey guys,
I’m trying to compile a list of GPP activities aimed at raising the work capacity of lagging muscles and general lower body work for sprinting to be done on low days.
Besides tempo and flexibility work I was thinking of performing extended drills to raise the work capacity of my legs. Mainly to complement tempo work and work on lagging muscles.
Any thoughts on certain exercises that really help?
Also I’d like to start an open discussion on the effectiveness/role of work capacity and its relation to sprint training and performance.
Extra question:
How do you guys feel about tempo with a weighted vest as progression?
I’m thinking of a lower overall volume of tempo to keep it less taxing. But what if after a certain criteria or base performance was met in the tempo workouts, it was progressed to weighted vest?
maybe 5lbs at first and then a gradual increase over a course of time. To me I would think this would increase GPP quite well, without being too taxing since it was built up.
The only time I would use a vest is for plyos. Jumps etc. Never for any form of running.
If you really want to introduce weight in your resistance training these accessories are something that we use occasionally. Just to give you an idea.
I would go for the 200g ones that go around ankles. They are especially good during plyo sessions.
