German Soccer Team Resistance Training

Sharpshooter Lukas Podolski, 27 June 2006, carrying a bit more resistance on the sled sprints

While I hate sleds, those mechanics arn’t too bad for a soccer player! Though I always found I got massive bruising on my shoulders on the few occasions i used sleds as an athlete.

I find it reassuring they are using such power methods - I would think appropriately with quite light loading - in the middle of the most vital championship series of their lives. I think the light loading is just enough to slow up the athletes sufficiently for them to “feel” the application of power, to know what it is

Yes - I find it interesting that they’d even consider those mid-tournament.

Can I ask where those pics are from KK?

Ballack’s Balancing Act - extreme pilates ( i don’t think the foot is touching the wall) from German World Cup training 30 June 2006

German World Cup goalie Jens Lehmann 30 June 2006

Ballack - A-skip? or what do you call this, lots of sprinters do this kind of slow march

It seems that many players are doing Verstegen’s Movement Prep (outlined in his book) or at least parts of it/a variation (saw pics on German sites).

2-6mm is the amp if that is what you wanted

Altought this is only a pic, I can guess that this player is doing “airplanes”… McGill in Ultimate Back Fitness and Performance recomended this exercises for hip mobility in warm-up. Tryed it, it looks stupid but it can be used

24HZ-45HZ WAY WAY above the resonating frequencies of bone tissue and other organs of the human body. Remember that the research on vibration training is growing every year and has to pass medical and ethical procedures before they are carried out. So it was never an issue. Also Bosco though (may he rest in peace), would never advocate such training methods if they were so damaging.

I haven’t seen Verstegen’s book but know the sort of stuff he reccomends. Here is an article he wrote for Golf Digest that has various exercises that could be applied to any sport.

The methods outlined in his book are not necessarily the same methods he uses at API or with the Germans for that matter. I think the Movement Prep and Regeneration is universal but for the combine prep I know he uses more advanced methods such as iso holds for bench, the vertimax, and resisted running. Make a search for Michael Huff and you should find some of the combine methods

Sorry i did not mean to imply that that frequency range was dangerous and used despite of this (although there are some tissue structures that resonate in that range, but the effect of vibration is not harmful). I know that they wouldn’t advocate such methods if they were so damaging.

(As an aside, getting appoval for human subject testing is a pain. I have to do it for some of my research).

this is definitely from verstegen’s program, these exercises that is, also one of his coaches is pictured in this picture…they arent doing anything too special, just good ole functional training…

Oh … I thought that was Louie Simmons trademark exercise? No?

Sarcasm at its finest…wow

Betcha Louie or Dave never moved a sled that fast!!!

resisted runs are astaple of almost all soccer s& c specialists

I am reading a book on AFL strength from the Collingwood and the author has pictures of player squating and doing push ups on vibration plate plus talking vertimax (?) (Picture shown on page 1)
