G5 Vs Powercat ?

What do yall prefer for the 100 ?
G5 - stiff plate and hard lockdown upper
Powercat- G5 plate and maxcat upper

Considering I hate my Monsterflys, what should I get ? I am size 13 and have just found these 2 IN STOCK, its pretty tough to get shoes at my size so i have to use this chance before they run out.

Thanks

dont matter they are all spikes. spikes dont make the sprinter, sprinter make the spikes.

Powercats all the way…my prefered spike for the 100m. But G5’s are cool too…you need to try them both out to see whats best for YOU. I pr’d over 60m in Maxcats…its a journey my friend…

Not anymore.

Japan lite-ning: makes both of them look like clunky child’s toys.

Fit on the Japan lite-ning is about the same as Nike’s. The same as the G5, not as tight of a fit as JSC/Maxcat. The plate stiffness is midrange between G5 and JSC. The weight level is the same as the original JSC, but with a stiffer plate for 100…so you get the best of all possible worlds.

On my scale, TWO Japan lite-nings weigh the same as ONE G5. Big difference.

Are we talking about Lite-Ning 1 or 2 ? or is it the same shoe

13 in Nike is what on asics in your experience ??

Tam bro, believe me if i could run with my fake Nike socks i would do it… but if im already spending money i might as well get something good right, YGPM lol !

Thanks Jason… the powercats also look cooler especially the red ones

spend it on training tools like cf gpp dvd.

You made me wanna pass on the whole shoe thing now :frowning: THANKS ALOT ! hehehe

it’s just that this SHOX stuff on the back of the shoe feelis so heavy and FLAT … and when i take them off and run farefoot I feel twice as fast… i dont know :frowning:

im sure you dont run twice as fast barefoot, its all in ur head bc if you were running fast you wouldnt even be talking about new spikes.

Mine are the Japan lite-ning 1, bought on sale from eastbay. I’m size 12 and the fit between the G5 and lite-ning is about the same. The fit on the lite-ning is more adjustable than the Nikes, due to the absence of a shroud that has to be zipped up.

I’ve not exactly been a Asics booster–I’ve had Nike spikes and Adidas training shoes for years–but this particular spike appeared to be a significant advantage…and it is.

I agree with tamfb in general that a training dvd will provide more improvement than yet another spike. But if you need a racing spike…

by running faster i mean I can feel my angles when I sprint… i dont know how to explain it… I just feel it.
whats are those new balance shoes you linked me

I also agree with Tam but where did I write that im looking for a performance boost ?
I used to have maxcats once, they were much more silent and comfortable than those monsterflys until i forgot them at the bus stop… they are just not comfortable, they are heavy, flat, annoying and you cant replace the worn down spikes because they are fixed…

go for it…

adidas lightsprint. $20 firsttothefinish

he only wear nikes.

Surprisingly the Monsterflys are the best spike that I have ever worn. They are not overly stiff and they don’t force you up onto your tippy toes like the G5’s do.

g5 vs powercat…I think you are in good shape with either one. Ideally you want the one that fits the best but you can’t really tell that unless you order both and send one back. One of my girls wears the G5s and really likes them. I would prefer the powercat simply because I’m not a fan of all that zipper & velcro crap.

give me a break you said the samething about the g5 (foot strap).

I always wanted to try the lit ning, but how long do they last. Arent the spikes permanent? I heard they are race only spikes.

I am a mizuno man myself.

The G5s fell apart and were crap for me. The plate is nice, but the upper is just crap. It is hard to get it tight for your foot and the zipper/strap complex is of shit material, so the zipper breaks easily and the velcro on the strap wears out in a few months.

Nike spikes tend to look pretty, but be made of poor quality.

I had the Lite-ning 1s and they were pretty good, though the toe box felt a little tight (had the same size as the G5 and the G5 fit fine). They lasted me about 1 year until the side blew out.

The Mizuno Geo Spark 3 were the best pair of spikes I’ve had. Besides the fact they were cheap, they fit great and lasted. They were also probably the ugliest spike ever made. I’d still be wearing them if it wasn’t for the abuse they took–tons of rain, mud, etc. and they held up quite a while.

I’m breaking in some Mizuno Tokyo 2s right now and they seem to fit a bit weird around the heel, but otherwise seem like a good spike. The plate is nice and the fit around the forefoot is great w/ the velcro.

The Lite-ning spikes do have 3 permanent spikes in there (that helps reduce a lot of the weight). I wouldn’t worry about it unless you’re one of the smart people that walks on concrete with your spikes ;). The upper will wear out far soon than any plate or spike related issue. I’ve heard of people having them for a few years now with no issues, though mine ripped on the side.
