I’m using the lite-ning for the outdoor season this year. I have raced in them for several meets, and have 3 more scheduled prior to OT. No problems with reliability so far.
I would have been ok with these being race-only spikes. In fact I was nervous even trying them with Asics using the term “monodensity” firm plate and with Charlie warning about the dangers of a hard plate causing achilles injuries. In fact, though, I’ve been using the spikes for speed/SE workouts for several weeks now. Typical week right now:
Mon 6X60, 100%, 20 min rest
Wed 2X30 + 4X120 100%, 20 min rest
Fri 3X (80,60,60) rest 2 min/15 min
About 1350m HI last week , all in the lite-ning. Concerns about injuries and poor reliability seen unfounded. Side-by-side they seem better made than G5.
The lite-ning spikes have 3 replaceable spikes and 3 metal risers (the latter are 3/16" high).
What may surprise you: These, so-called “Japanese home market” spikes are MADE IN CHINA. It’s marked that way right on the box.
They don’t exist anymore. I got mine like 3 years ago from Eastbay and they only had a few pairs left even then and I haven’t seen them since on any site. Don’t confuse the geo spark 3 with the geo sniper or whatever else. I don’t know anyone who thought the Geo Spark 3s looked decent in anyway. I used a sharpie and paint pen to give mine a black upper and metalic silver plate. Looked pretty good, though it wore off w/ rain and such.
Davan watch out for the strap closets to your toes. If it is too tight it will rip. I had to send mine back because of this. I was still able to run when it ripped, but be careful.
I ended up getting the Lite-Ning, G5 were out of stock…
Anyway after a few weeks of wearing them, i must say… I AM NOT GOING BACK TO AMERICAN SPIKES.
WOW, the feel, its perfect !! so light and bouncy, not too flexible, not too stiff !
great spike arrangement… they are on a league of their own imo, I feel better when I run now, so while they probably didn’t make me any faster, It sure FEELS much better, angle wise…
However, The build is so delicate that i can feel the side tearing taring up slowly on fast curves, so i’m gonna use them for races and sprints over 30m… I have the monsters for short dashes and sometimes tempo when the grass is wet
I used the Monster Fly’s for the last indoor meet of the season and did the 60 with it. I did not like the feel of it at all…the twisted spikes didnt help me out on the drive out either…
I returned them and ended up gettin the HS intermediate Rival S IV’s…which is double the weight…but Ill live with it until I grab a job…
Sometimes, me and my teammate share his Powercats in between our races and I LOVE THEM…
When I get the money, I will invest it on the Lite-ning since it is half the price of the Powercat and lighter as well…
