Is the periodization of strength different in sprinting and in jumping events. Is there a need for a power conversion phase for jumpers?
the periodization is a little different for jumpers than for sprinters. The jumpers main focus is on explosive lifting, lifts like cleans and leg pres allow for the most explosive power for a jumper. I also strongly believe in straight leg dead lifts. this strenghtens the entire back of the leg. gluts, hamstrings , and calves all of which are huge for a jumper. A jumper can stay in a maximum lift stage much longer than a sprinter because a sprinter needs to begin the GPP phase in order to be able to convert free weight strength from the weight room to speed on the track. it takes appx 8 weeks to develop speed regardless to how advance the runner is and depending on his training phases. a jumper needs about 3-4 weeks to get sharp.
