Do I need Speed/Special Endurance?

Just ran my first race the other day (100/200) and needless to say… I’ve got nothing after 30m. I kind of expected that since I’ve been only training with short accels (due to the demands of other sports). But now, since I want to improve at the 100/200, what sort of longer work do I need? 150’s, 300’s, or maybe some flys to work on top speed?

I would say you need some intermediate work maybe in the 60-80 range first.

Just ask yourself if you think 150’s or 300’s are going to be the best thing for 30-100m.

To run faster you need to run faster. (who would have thought)

i was thinking of doign 80’s, think this season i made the mistake of doing to much 250s (got some improvement in that) and some 150s but not enough 120s and 80s which would carryover more to the shorter speeds.

I’d also agree with those sentiments…I remember when I was out for 6 weeks with a minor hamstring tendon niggle in 2004 during in the height of the outdoor season. It just wouldnt go away…Once I got the all clear I wanted to try and salvage something from my season…It was suggested that I did pure 60’s and 80’s. I did 60’s with max recovery for the speed part and for speed end. did the 80’s with 2.5 to 3mins recovery.

I would agree, and if you can maintain quality then 80m 100m 120m with good recoveries is a decent type of session.

When we say over 100m, are we talking about flying or from start?

you killed everyone in that heat… you’re pretty fast.

So maybe something like 3 x 100m @ 95% with 10min recoveries???

10mins…blimey…I was taking 10-12mins on 30’s @ 95%!

But then again it all depends on what you’re looking to achieve from the session. But if you want quality i’d push the recovery out a little more…

not fast enough. It was windy even though it said +0.0 wind i felt few surges.

Extremely slow… I think I got beat by a 15 year-old in the 200.
