Yes, I know a guy like this. He ran a 10.2, 20.5 and 46 and change. HSI wanted to recruit him but he did not want to go; don’t know why.
Anyhow, he would (and this is at a Jr collage in cali) skip practice and hang out/smoke but still manage to run these incredible times.
Looking back, (this was about 4-5 years ago) he was doing the right thing by avoiding some of the practice sessions as the coach would make us run 3-4 mile runs, endless conditioning drills, and 90% effort repetitive 200m runs; in fact we never did speed work.
