Chronicles of Herbert : Fight Saga

Fight Training:

Too much fun! We did escapes from the Ommoplata (however you spell it), and then we rolled for a half hour.

Knee on belly stuff today. Sparring went awesome! I am feeling good. I think I have a broken finger though, but while I train it doesn’t hurt…just the next morning.

We worked on basics today. Triangle choke and armbar from a triangle choke position. Rolling felt great today.

Last Friday night I ended up getting a cold. At the time I weighed 218 pounds. A week and a couple days later I weigh 199 pounds. If you want to loose weight…just catch SARS or West Nile, or whatever it was that I had. Needless to say I didn’t train.

Have a thankful Thanksgiving Day Canada.

Good day of fight training. I managed to tap out my sparring partner a bunch of time without getting tapped out myself. Good times, good times.

Training has been slow.

Training has been on the furthest back back burner for the last 3 months. I made a few scheduling errors with school this sememster. 5 Philosophy courses, working in the University Gymnasium, and being a teacher’s assistant for 3 different teachers was too much. TOO MUCH! I managed to pull off a half decent GPA (80.6%) despite my fears of getting far lower.

I talked to Guy Greavette my strength trainer and am going to start up again soon with him. As well I talked with my fight instructor and will start up there again soon.

My weight was 218, went down to 199 becuase of a flu or cold, and then it went back up to 213. At that point my good friend Bob Kwasny motivated me to follow him and do what he was doing with diet. This is only temporary until I get my weight down to about 10%bf, but basically the rules are simple: No Sugar, No Dairy, No Supplements, No Alcohol (so basically no Beer :frowning: ), and No Flour.Wheat products. I started on the 9th of December at 213lbs, and two days ago I was at 196lbs. I believe this is the lightest I have been in over a year.

Since this is a training journal, I try to keep only things pertaining to training in here. If anyone is interested in the public part of my personal life: http://www.myspace.com/powerspeed

I will be posting here again regularly.

Love From Herb.

I had a decent tempo training session today. Mostly just warmed up, hit the bag a bit and then streched out with some ab work.

Did some sparring yesterday. I got in about 2 rounds before I had to leave, but it felt good. I am a bit sore today, but that is to be expected for the next couple of weeks or so until my body adapts again to the work.

Here’s a few guys that I train with. Keep in mind the stats aren’t always 100% up to date:

Muah Thai Training:

12 x 3 minute rounds one munite rest of sparring. Not the best way to re-enter training, but oh well, I will just have to deal with the soreness tomorow. Overall I felt good. I had about 8 good rounds in me till I started to slow considerably.

Haha, I just noticed my previous post says Muah Thai Training instead of Muai Thai.

Fight Training:

6 x 6 minute rounds with one minute rest grappling.

Question Herb,

When was the last time u fought? I’m Curious!

It was so long ago I can’t remember. I am thinking it was about 5 years ago now. It was before I actually trained in MMA though so it was a bit rough on me.

Abs x 500 reps.

Are you scheduled to fight soon? Just wondering.

Today was a slower day for training. I rolled for about 2.5 rounds before I completely gassed. So I did some abs and worked on my explosive kicks. It was good times.

Not scheduled to fight at the moment. If training goes according to plan I may be in shape to fight in March or end of April (mid April I will have final exams at school so fighting is out of the question).

Muay Thai:

Lots of combos, and about 4 rounds at the end of class of jab + combos.

MMA:

I can’t quite remember what I did for training. I know that I haven’t been beaten up this badly since my fight 5 years ago. It was awesome. I got trapped in a strange position at the start of a 5 minute round where my head was target practice for the guy I was fighting. His fists I am sure were hurting afterwards. Anyways, it is all part of getting back in shape. I almost passed out 2 or 3 times in training today. Fun fun.
