Chronicles of Herbert : Fight Saga

hi Herb!
What’s your expectation for next sunday Emilianenko vs. Cro cop?

They are both incredible fighters, and I will be happy whoever wins, but I think Fedor might take it (even though I hope CroCop does).

I’m also a Cro cop fan but his high kicks won’t be enough for Fedors ground techique. My opinion. Will see.

Fight Training:

30 second rounds with 2 minutes rest.

2 x (Punching, Abs, Kicking, Skipping, Ground & Pound, Knees).

I went to lift weights at my top secret gym, and somebody took the bumper plates. Grrrrr! Oh well. Things will work out I am sure.

Weights:

Power Cleans (lots of them)
Power clean type shrug thingys
Squats (120kg 4 times)

Fight Training:

2 hours of power drills

3 reps of knox mountain jog.

3 rounds heavy bag work.

Warm down.

Last night I was qute sure that I was going to wake up and not be able to move. I was delightfully surprised this morning when I found myself to be minimally sore. My Sacroilliac joint is killin me on my left side and my physio is on vacation until Monday. Usually I would not go to train tonight becaue of my sprinting mentality.

As a sprinter you can’t sprint if there is a loose gasket. It is like an airplane trying to fly with microfractures in one of the engine components…if it goes, then the plane crashes and the result is catastrophic. However, as a fighter, I am more like an off-road vehicle. A hummer if you will. A dent in the bumper doesn’t mean I can go adventuring in the wilderness.

So basically, last night, while I was in terrible pain (which 10mg of morphine sulphate couldn’t seem to quell), I decided that I am a fighter. So, tonight I will go to practice. I am not going to push myself to the degree where I will hurt myself more, but I will put in quite a lot of effort.

Herb. For the love of God, get your face off of your avatar, its been a month already.

What do you do for training during the week in MMA? Have you seen the new Bas Rutten DVD’S? Got any good resources on striking i.e.
videos?

Hahaha. Oh boy, that made me laugh. Even I am sick of that picture. It is rated 9.9 on Hot or Not though!

My MMA training during the week happens on Mon, Wed, Fri. I guess I could be more specific in how I write things down here. When I talk about rounds, usually they are MMA rounds. The group I train with is world class. We have a few pro fighters who are fighting in the next XFC, WFF, and KOTC, so my training partners are tough.

I have seen some of Bas Ruten’s videos. They are good. I try not to go outside of what my instructor teaches me though. There is SOOOO much to learn and my instructor has so much to teach me yet.

One of the best resources on striking is The Tao of Jeet Kune Do, by Bruce Lee. His theory and philosophy are wonderful. The techniques themselves would have to be adapted depending on whatever opponent you are facing, but the theory and philosophy are still relevant. I think Bruce Lee was the Charlie Francis of Martial Arts. And, as far as I know Charlie is a master in a few types of ancient martial arts.

You have seen me at track meets cause I coach track.

Fight Training:

3 x 5 minute rounds sparring with 1 minute rest

3 x 3 minute rounds heavy bag 30 seconds rest.

3 x 3 minute rounds sparring (jiujitsu) 30 seconds rest.

Fight Training:

Sort of a mish mash of stuff today. I couldn’t do much because there is something up with my Radial or Axillary nerve which is causing serious pain all the way down my left arm. Anyways, I am going to go do a contrast shower…probably. The cold…it is so, so…it’s so cold.

FIght Training:

I just finished 3 x 5 minute rounds of ground strength endurance work whilst in excruciating pain. probably I haven’t felt this much pain in a long time. I can hardly type because my hands are shaking from the pain.

Fight Training:

Yesterday all I could do basically was lots of kicking and kneeing of the heavy bag. My shins and knees are bruised up quite a bit. Hopefully the nerves in my arms and neck calm down soon so I can get back to consistent training. This time however, I will do what I can instead of taking the time off completely.

Cardio:

2 reps of Knox mountain run.

Fight Training:

3 rounds of heavybag training, with kicks and knees only.

Fight Training:

I thoughyt I would test out the arm today. I made it fine for one 4 minute round and then I did a bit of heavy bag work. It started to flare up so I took it easy.

Cardio Training:

Rutland Stairs.

100 stairs. 6 sets alternating between running up each stair for one set, and running up the stairs by twos.

Monday was a holiday so I didn’t train. Wednesday was a short but good session for me. My arm didn’t give me any trouble. Today I had a full practice and I felt great.

Fight Training Seminar:

John Delao came up from California and put on a quick 2 hour seminar. It was good to roll with guys from another club.

www.wffchampionships.com

there are a couple guys from my club fighting on that card.

herb have you fought yet? and what kind of league do you fight in?

PS. everybody is a 9.9 on hot or not

I will fight as soon as my weight gets back down to around 190 (so I can fight at 180-185). I would fight on the undercard of www.wffchampionships.com

And I am hotter than 99% of the people on hot or not.
