Charlie Francis has died

Rip best coach ever the humanity has a debt with you

R.I.P Mr Francis!

When the dust has settled and when some light is poured on the life and career of Charlie Francis, perhaps some clarity can be achieved via the mainstream regarding his prodigious, ground-breaking and dedicated contribution towards the sport of athletics.

Charlie Francis’ training methods have been crucial to the success of many of the worlds ‘top’ coaches and athletes - although they would never admit it. This forum bears testament to his passion and knowledge for the sport.

Although I never knew Mr Francis, and only came to this forum due to my combined interest in athletics aswell as his training philosophy, I sincerely believe him to be an honest and compassionate human being. Indeed, he is infinitely more honest and compassionate than the ‘elites’ who put a nook around his neck and made him the negative pariah of athletics. The truth is the opposite - he was a man who loved his athletes and this sport with all his heart and hopefully his insights and knowledge can be honourably attributed to him so that the advancement of this sport can take place.

Regards.

It certainly has been a great run by an inspiring and wonderful man who has touched the lives of many. I will always count him as one of my heroes for his exceptional intelligence, willingness to teach, and that wonderful, ascerbic sense of humor. May the light he has brought to the world live on.

Ange, James, as well as the other members of this forum, I wish you nothing but the best and offer my condolences during this difficult time.

a great man, i have learnt over the past ten years from the old to the new forum

RIP, Charlie.

Charlie was a man who truly cared about athletes and coaches at all levels. It was simply amazing to me that as a simple high-school coach I could ask and get advice from a man of his stature. He seemed as interested in helping me get a 400 girl from 62 to 59 as he was in helping a world-class athlete go from 45 to 44. God bless him. He made me a better coach.

Very Sad. I just found out. Just sad.

I see nothing on Athletics Canada’s website. If you are a coach in Canada you should email them to demand they at least acknowledge his passing.

Charlie is the man and his legacy will live forever. Keep his name ringing.

RIP.

My condolences to his family.

Track Legend. RIP.

I can’t find the words. Later i will.
He changed the life of so many.
Please guys keep this board alive.

I posted re: Charlie on another thread but I will say here that I agree with what PJ and others have said before me. Charlie’s will continue through the efforts of the many coaches he influences now and in the future as well as the athletes they train.

We need to keep this board going to further Charlie’s principles and his memory.

I can’t imagine anyone who posts here or at least reads the content on this forum with any regularity is not greatly influenced by his teachings.

Charlie Francis will surely be missed.
