Charlie Francis states why fight for tenths or hundredths at the start, when you can gain seconds in the later stages of the race through general conditioning does this apply to short races 55-60m also?
i wouldnt think so. i would think, top speed and acceleration are key here.
i would still go right to left, just that from “right” i would be looking at as max speed
Get max speed, then learn to acc out to there.
tempo/general endurance will still help in recovery between days/sets/reps so if that is poor, i would still be working upon improving that area too.
Thanks, that makes sense.
Actually a bit of both. General fitness preceeds even short speed advances for a while at least. There’s still a lot of fitness to building enough speed even for a 60- and besides- why be limited to only that unless track is only a secondary sport.
IMHO the general public (and many athletes) underestimate the general fitness requirements of sprinters.
i always use the measure of being in shape through tempo, but im unsure what type of volume qualifies you as someone in excellent shape?
would doing medballs, situps and pushup variations throughout the year be necessary to increase general fitness?
Definitely, I certainly use it all year round and incorporate it with the tempo running. Some good ideas on the GPP DVD and no doubt on the Med Ball DVD as well.
