Hello Charlie, my season ends mid June and I will start my fall gpp in Sept which will be your 7 week gpp program. Let’s say I decide to focus on top speed during this time period (summer months) follow by a 2 week active rest period before starting your gpp graphs I am wondering would I lose some of the skills that I gain through the previous block of training by doing all the hill work in the early stages of gpp? I don’t see a problem because it’s no different from a having a season that goes into august then taking several weeks off and starting gpp.
I don’t see big losses and you can see that the GPP provides the opportunitiy to do some technical speed development as you can see on the GPP Download.
Thank you, I wasn’t sure; I thought there would have been a possibility of losing some of the new found speed (top speed) by emphasizing hills 3x times per week for the first 4-5 weeks.
What would you recommend in this case, my season ends mid June and I’m not starting gpp until Sept?
why the big break?
Should I start gpp in July, indoor season doesnt start until Jan??
Are there no competitions available after June?
U may have to travel if you can. There are lots of meets going on thru the summer. Go to directathletics.com
I just checked the site I saw 4-5 meets in June but nothing in July-August, I will keep checking…
Not in my area. Funds are low for traveling this summer because GF and I took a trip to Paris…
please adjust your avatar rb34
there is nothing to stop you having a simulated competition phase of your own with TT’s over a 3-4 week block.
Or perhaps more appropriately given the time frame;
(1) 1 week off after the last real race;
(2) Phase III training for 3-4 weeks
(3) 3-6 week TT “competition” block.
Then some time off followed by GPP.
See the graphic in CFTS p.101.
I will be training along over the summer, I do have a friend who have access to timing gates etc but I perfer not to go that route. If all fail I will have normal training sessions for 7-8 weeks follow by 2-4 weeks rest/active rest before starting gpp. BTW, the summer months is a great time for me to grow my business and make some extra cash so thats why it’s diffcult for me to start my gpp in the summer months. I was planning on following David W setup: Speed: Mon/Thur, Tempo: Wed/Sat, Weights: Tue/Fri and each session would last 70-80mins which would allow me the extra time I need to invest in my business.
Thank you for the chart, the TT are a great deal but for what I am trying to achieve over the next couple years, I need to get legit times. I will keep checking and hopefully I can find something in Texas in June-Aug…
Great if you can find meets but if you can’t, you’ve been offered a good solution that will help tyou get legit times the next time through.
Baton Rouge or bust?? I’m far from a master athlete, I won’t be joining you anytime soon.
I agree, if I cant find meets I will probably train like I mention earlier instead of getting some lame HT…
Masters meets have Open divisions

Funny you mention this, because I wanted to enter in a master meet in Wisconsin (late July 2009) and they wouldnt let me, the meet director said its a masters only meet.
